Replace front parkning lights 2009

Featured Replies

It looks like a bit of a pain to replace those lights, the hole is very small and on the side with the battery space is very limited. I need your ideas of how doing it the easy and right way. Saw a YouTube video with a guy telling us to jiggle it out of its housing, I don't feel comfortable doing that because it looks like you need to twist it and then pull it. However, I cannot with my hands.

Model 2009 with the Bi-Halogen lights.

They are a nightmare to change, all the Halfords and other stores likethese won't change thesse bulbs for love nor money, anyway I did mine by removing the battery covering the wing with a cloth and reaching inside, before I started I gave the holder a squirt with WD yes you have to grab the 2 wires and pull it out no twisting involved, I replaced both mine with led bulbs capless 501 but I drilled 2 holes in the holder and looped a zip tie through the holes so if next time they need to come out you can just grab the loop and pull, drivers side as I had a diesel meant taking the filter housing out of the way to get at it, in fairness the bulbs lasted for 9 years but car was then written off by un-insured driver we now have a mk3 which already has led lights fitted

So there is no need to twist it in order to remove the whole assembly with module with light inserted in? Is it also just a push to reinstall it? No twisting needed?

Changed both of mine the other day. Did have to unbolt the battery and slide it to one side, and then remove the indicator bulb and holder on the nearside. Used a pair of bull nose pliers VERY carefully to latch onto the plastic housing - didn't want to pull on the wires. Bit trial and error, but did it eventually. Offside was more tricky as had to unbolt the fuel filter (I have a diesel) so not sure where fuel filter is on petrol. Then used same procedure.

Fiddly as F, but upgraded the bulbs whilst at it.

Is there any twisting motion involved to remove them?

Maybe a little left/right wiggle to help loosen, but no full 90° twist or anything.

You just pull on the 2 wires going into the little bulb.

Do not use tools!

Is the wires really made to be pulled at like that?

Your manual says - as you know - grasp the light bulb holder. This might work when the bulb has been just fitted. Do that if you can, most people give up and pull on the wires .
