Advice appreciated on a suspension kit for my mk2 vRS estate

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm now about four weeks into my vRS journey.

Both MOT advisories have been sorted; new tyres and new wishbones fitted.

The dodgy seatbelt has also been replaced.

Now I need to sort the suspension.

It's too low and too hard.

I don't think I need or want coilovers, just a new set of springs and dampers for a better ride and 25mm lower.

I've no idea what's currently fitted, I don't really care. It just needs to be sorted. Out with the old, in with the new.

Budget could stretch to 5 or 6 hundred quid, plus fitting.

Should coilovers be a consideration? I can't see myself playing with the set up. Just want to fit and forget.

Any advice on what springs and shocks to look for for my 25mm requirement and for a better ride?

Many thanks.

Someone will be along with suggested suspension parts to suit.

Your estate looks lowered already in that picture,

you might not be interested in what is fitted but best look and see and maybe post some pictures.

Is it just lowering springs that are fitted now, good ones, cheap ones, expensive ones that you do not like,

or springs and dampers and is it worn out bushes or upgraded ones etc.  Poly Bushing maybe! Power Flex.

Thanks for the reply, roottoot.

A previous owner has lowered it and I'd like to fix it.

Not quite so low and a better ride.

I'm quite happy to start from scratch.

Luckily, my local garage are really helpful so they should be able to confirm the current set up.

Thanks.

Good if you have a garage that knows the cars.

Is this your car?

@Mickmartin& others will be able to help.

& a member @Damian@DPM

will be along maybe from http://dpmperformance.co.uk that can help.

Yeah, that's mine.

Purchased it a few weeks ago.

@DutyPaid

Can you take off a front and rear wheel then and get pictures of the springs and dampers so you can be told what is on the car?,

& is there a rear anti roll bar fitted now?

Mate, I'm not able to do that.

I can install you a home cinema system and build you a custom PC, but I've never really got under the bonnet of my cars.

Out of interest, where did you find the photos of the motor?

I prefer the rear lights in the pics you provided. It seems someone has sprayed them to make them darker.

And also changed the badges at the rear.

It seems that I'm now on a mission to undo a few years of "good intentions".

Next will be replacing the obnoxious cat-back exhaust.

I spotted the car a while back when it was up for sale and I had seen the car before with the front lip in black.  £500 to £600 will not go far if you are paying a garage to do the work.   It would be good to know what springs and dampers are on.  You might even get some cash money flogging them.   PS.  Can you really not change a wheel if you get a puncture?

I'll, pay the 5 or 6 hundred or more if needed, plus the labour.

The cost isn't an issue, really.

Ask someone to put it on a ramp so you can get pictures then.  Maybe where you had the tyres fitted.

Of course I can.

But I wouldn't know what I'm looking for with dampers and springs.

I'll get somebody to sort that for me, the same as people come to me for IT support.

That's what I'll do, I think. My local garage is only a few hundred yards away and they'll sort it.

From some pictures of what is fitted someone here could probably tell you if it is H&R, Eibach, ST or whatever springs that are fitted and what the dampers

might be.

Here was the advert i had saved.

Do you mean 25mm lower than what you already consider too low (& too hard as a consequence) or 25mm lower than standard?

25mm lower than standard.

We're going back up.

Well I wish that told the whole story.

I've spent a grand already on wishbones and a new drivers seat belt and tyres.

To be fair, I could have just purchased two new tyres for the rear but I went for it and bought a set of 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 5's for £480.

I'm all in now.

I'll turn this into a proper specimen!!

Why not though, hey.

Going to have fun with it !!

I've spoken to my local garage. They're going to sort the suspension.

Then I'm going to sort the exhaust and then I think I'll buy some new wheels.

@DutyPaid

Looks like more than 25 mm drop springs to me.

I had not read your other threads post earlier on the work you just had completed.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/503817-today-i-purchased-a-2011-fabia-14-vrs-estate-could-you-please-advise-one-a-couple-of-things

?

Have you bought the car from someone else after Swanz Motors were selling it?

?

Is all well with the engine and oil use, and is it the original engine still fitted?

PS.

The advice you asked for from  others on  here  is what you need & from those with estates will certainly help to get to sort the suspension.

Standard springs and dampers are certainly not what you want.

Near 10 years on now from here and there are plenty with experience of estate upgrades.

Yes it is. That's what I'd like to fix.

I want to undo the awful lowering. Get things back up a bit.

The car has been well looked after by the previous owner.

You splash the cash and buy the good parts.

So once you can say or show what the springs and dampers are you know what you are looking at getting.

Maybe what is on is just a poor choice of parts, maybe not even new when fitted.

There are a couple of things that have been done that I would not have done.

1. Lowered too much. I will fix this.

2. Obnoxious cat-back exhaust. Too noisy. I'm 50 years old, not 20. Has to go.

The good news is, I will rectify these poor "upgrade" choices and sort the motor.

I really enjoy this vRS and am happy to spend a few quid to make it right for me.

Probably won't get it back if and when I sell it. But who cares.

I'm going to make this a great car.

From what you've said springs and shocks are going to be the better option for you over coilovers.

Drop us a PM if we can be any help and we can get some prices and info on kits together for you.

Hi Damian,

Thank you for your time.

I'm happy to go for the ST 30mm suspension kit.

I'll be in touch in the next day or two.

Thanks again.

I'm currently building a PC rig, After purchasing a Z690 board they  announce AM5 is on the way.

I'll be brutally honest mate, Even when standard these cars are awful when it comes to the ride comfort, A mixture of low profile tyres, heavy standard alloys and a a crap suspension set up. You could literally spend thousands and the ride would still be harsh albeit maybe not as bad as standard.

To be fair, Mick, it looks like I will be spending over a grand.

I will be buying this for the suspension - https://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/car-parts/skoda/fabia/st-30mm-springs-shocks-suspension-kitfabia-5j-20102015-14tsi-vrs

And I also want some new wheels. Looking at these - https://www.lkperformance.co.uk/wheels/romac/15650-venom-black-with-polished-face?vehicle=1201&inventory_id=1021705

It may still be a harsh ride but I'm all in now. Going to keep this vRS and make it mint.

Are there any wheels that you'd recommend?

I still have a standard cat down pipe and middle section if you want to swap for the loud exhaust 😂🤣😂🤣
