Do you have an aftermarket radio or phone kit fitted?

Recently bought the car, an ex-lease vehicle so I guess its the original radio (SYMPHONY on the casette flap) and it has the std 6-disc changer in the rear.

A Nokia phone kit is installed, wire goes into dash somewhere near radio and what I guess is the microphone protrudes by the centre interior light but my phone doesn't fit so haven't tried it.

Looks like a bad connection on one of the two wire pair that makes up the Comfort CAN bus.

Is this consistent with the fact that it seems OK when the engine is running?

If so, can you explain how I would test this with a multimeter or with further examination in VAG-COM?

A Haynes Manual has just been published for the Octavia but I doubt very much that it has the wiring detail you need. For info, the parts referred to below in your scan results are the 4 window regulator motors.

Did the car come with any form of warranty?

Unfortunately no warranty. The car and all electronics work faultlessly as far as I can tell, including all windows both when engine is running and when it isn't.

Same goes for the radio although a few times in the last week I have noticed the CD volume has fluctuated during playback, just for a few seconds, not sure if its linked to the radio fault code.

Uwe's reply seems a possibility regarding the Comfort CAN bus assuming the radio, Central Conv and electric windows are all connected to the same bus as they all have very similar faults.

Anyone know if the readiness check should work with this vehicle?

The Comfort CAN can run on a single wire as a fall-back (which is what that 01366 fault indicates it's doing), hence everything still works.

As far as the Readiness Check, it's really hard to say. What model year is the car? Please post complete ID data from the Engine (from your Autoscan, or by using the Copy button on the Fault Codes screen, evern if there are no fault codes present).

A 2002 Diesel is not required to be OBD-2/EOBD compatible, so it's pretty common that these do NOT support readiness.

Found this on page 55 of the VAG-COM manual regarding the Symphony radio I have installed...

It appears that there is something not quite up to snuff in the Symphony's ability to drive

the K-line. We've had some reports that they work better with non-optically isolated

interfaces, and they may work better with the engine running (which means there is a

higher voltage on the VBatt lines in the car).



The faults I am getting only appear if I autoscan while the engine is not running as is stated above. Do you think this may be my problem or is the K-line something completely different?

And any idea what the non-optically isolated interfaces are???

First off, this issue is talking about Audi Symphony Radios, not the same as Skoda Symphony. Also The K-Line has nothing to do with CAN and last but not least, you do have a "non-optically isolated interface".

Readiness: Let me know what you see in Measuring Block Group 017 of the engine.

Optically isolated interfaces are those which only work with version 311.2 or older. Since you're using the current 512.4, yours is clearly not. Those Convenience CAN faults are definitely not related to the issues we've got documented with the earlier Audi Symphony radios.

I noticed that the label file used was 038-906-012.LBL (or maybe 038-906-012-CL.LBL) with the comments "VAG-COM Measuring Block Labels Template file.; TDi 1.9 (ALH engine) ECU 038 906 012 BD ... also modified for Golf & Jetta". Is this appropriate for my skoda? I guess so as it was automatically used by VAG-COM.

I know mine is the 110bhp ASV engine.

Incidentally, I cleared all DTC's and re-scanned for codes both with engine off and with it running and the previous codes were not found, maybe as they are intermittent faults. I did however receive a new code for the radio...

Just realised regarding the radio fault that I must have inadvertantly changed the workshop code programmed into it as it originally looked like this...

Is there a way of changing the workshop code back to 31480? Don't know how it changed, I have looked at parts of the software such as Adaption but always backed out without intending to make any changes, maybe I made a mistake!

I think I understand how to change the WSC by entering it in the adaption screen but I have read that if the workshop code is entered into the options screen it is difficult to remove, just wanted to check that I won't have the same problem by entering it in the adaption screen.

Please help :(

The work shop code is only a note which dealer did the last "active" changes to that module, a loose of the WSC is pretty rare but nothing to worry about. There is no need to change the WSC back. Did you check the radio coding for plausibility?

I don't believe I have Sebastian, can you please explain what the plausibility check is? :confused:

The Workshop code has no functional effect on anything -- there's no problem with it being 00000. But if you want to change it back to 31480, change the coding to something other than 00407 and change it back. When you change it back, make sure you set the appropriate WSC.

Readiness: What do you see when you actually look access measuing block group 017? The label file being used is clearly not quite right for your engine (but it should be pretty close). There's a German one here:

As it makes no mention of group 017, it's quite possible that this ECU doesn't have group 017 and doesn't support readiness.

When I accessed block 17 manually all fields were completely blank so I guess readiness is not suuported as you have said.
