Door mirror glass replacement

Featured Replies

My door mirror glass shot off this morning - , on closer inspection the heated layer film glue failed - i can get a new mirror piece but some are selling mirror and back plate - but having looked at the mirror not just sure how the back plate is removed frmo the outside cover  ? any guidance

Of course simply i could just glue a new mirror piece on :)

Similar prob years ago, I just cleaned up the back of the mirror and the base, then used gutter sealant, still in place without probs   ---   i assume the mirror is not broken?

Cheers Urrell - watched and got the plate out now - ordered a new one £11.50 - not bad - i should have stopped when i saw it wobbling rather than let it crash to ground ! we live and learn

Ah ok, got to mine before it fell completely off!

I got the new mirror piece and fitted - reconnected the wires but the switch works backward - ie left postion works the right and i cant get the left ( movement with the joystick)  to work at all  - i guess i should swap the wires ? they were laid out slightly differently with the new mirror slab

The wires on the mirror are for the demisting/heating function - polarity doesn't matter.

It seems more likely the mirror isn't full connected to the motor? I'd take the mirror off again, verify the motor is moving correctly and then refit the mirror :)

Its a stupid set up as standard but adjusting the drivers mirror also changes the position of the passenger one, it can be changed using VCDS to the logical operation of R for adjusting RH mirror and L for the LH one, I cannot imagine any reason why they should have created the dual setting let alone have that as standard, I suspect recreational drugs may have been involved.

It took me a decade of driving constantly having to readjust the passenger mirror to finally see one day what was going on, boy did I feel stupid quickly followed by anger!

I, like I suspect most of us had always been watching the drivers mirror while adjusting its position and never seen what was happening the other side of the car, I am also blind in the left eye.

It's so that if there are two regular drivers of significantly different height, as is often the case, both mirrors can be adjusted rapidly to suit the two viewpoints.

Thanks for that Pete, I knew there must be some logic, had they done that but only mirrored (pun intended) the vertical movements it would have made more sense and not caused the problems that it does.

Assuming you have a maxidot cluster with a settings menu, the behaviour can be changed there :)

At least the old Octavia owners manual I have makes clear the expected behaviour:

As Pete mentioned, there are reasons for the mirrors to move together. Although I always thought the vertical was matched and the horizontal was reversed which makes sense to me at least...

Still - I'm not sure if this is related to the problem the OP is happening so lets see what they come back with 👍

On the MK1 Octavia I think I can safely say it wasn't a menu option, over 13 years I would have stumbled on it.

Yes I think the horizontal movements may be reversed, next time I adjust the mirrors I will check.

I never found it on the MK2 Octavia but don't have the same confidence to say it wasn't there, I changed it with VCDS.

On my current Yeti I am very confident the menu option is not there (waits to be proven wrong) and again changed it with VCDS.
