Rear caliper torque settings

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm planning on changing my rear discs and pads on the weekend, I have everything I need including new bolts and vcds, well everything except does anyone know the torques for the caliper bolts and the caliper carrier bolts.

Although I've read I may not need to remove the carriers to fit the discs which would be a bonus.

I've got a Superb 3 TDI 150

Thank you 😊

Phil

Hi,

According to Brake System manual for Suerb Mk3 (to be downloaded from cardiagn.com for free ;) ), you should find the tightening torques either in chapter 46 - Brakes- mechanism / section "2.1 Assembly overview - rear brakes” (page 47) or in chapter 47 - Brakes - hydraulics / section “2.1 Assembly overview - rear brake caliper”, (page 74).

Thank you, I'll take a look now

You're welcome! I hope it helps. ;)

Caliper bolts are just a single torque setting.
the carrier bolts on the other hand are stretch bolts and need a torque setting followed by an angle.

sometimes you can wiggle the disc past the carrier without removing it. Saves a lot of time

When you say everything, do you have your battery maintainer too?

I have one, didn't use it on my last vehicle I had that had an electric handbrake, does vcds require me to connect it up before it will continue?

If so I better find myself an extension lead 😂

You can change the solid rear discs without removing the carrier so @PhilD2 should be ok with his TDI 150.

Not needed - you can switch the ignition off while the electric park brake is in the service position, it will remember its state when you switch back on to complete the process.

Yes, it has to be told to exit the service mode and will then extend and retract the actuator a few times to learn the new pad thickness.

I thought vcds warns about having it charged?

It does, but it’s not necessary. You can switch the ignition off while you change the discs and pads.
