Front washer pushing washer fluid also from rear

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have fabia combi mk3 2015 and one thing I've noticed is that when I use washer only front it also pushes fluid out of rear window washer.

Is this fixable?

I'm sure that there is a one way valve on the pump so that when it runs in one direction, ie the "normal" direction, the fluid gets sent to the front only, when the pump is run in the opposite direction, the fluid should only then be sent to the rear.

The pump is a double pump which I knew already, I was asking that do I need to change pump or is there some other way to fix this?

I'd guess so - though you should find and check a parts listing for your car to see if any parts are available other than a new pump.

Edit:- I'm guessing that the front spray works okay and only works when that function is selected?

Front works fine, and rear works fine, only rear also comes smaller pressure when using only front.

I've looked at the parts listing for your age of car, and there is an "injection nozzle with valve" assembly associated with the rear wash fluid circuit, exactly where it is located, I can't say part number 510 955 993 what its main function is I can't say, though as it has a valve built into it, I'd think that it could be to retain fluid in the delivery tube so that there is fluid almost up to the washer jet nozzle at the point in time you request fluid for the rear window - and so you don't need to wait a few seconds before the fluid sprays out, if all that is true, then it is possible that if that one way valve is always open, then even low pressure fluid intended for the front screen could get passed through and out the rear nozzle, and if that one way valve was working as intended, it would present enough of a "forward facing" resistance to low leaking through front screen fluid, as to stop it getting into the rear screen piping, while allowing the normal higher pressure rear screen fluid through , but other than that it leaves only the main washer pump assembly as being the root cause of this issue.

Sorry a long winded reply, I was just trying to explain my logic!

Any instructions how to change the washer pump? Because i changed that rear nozzle but it didn't help. @rum4mo

I hope that it was the valve thing that I suggested that you replaced and not just the rear spray nozzle?

Typically to replace a washer pump, you would lift the front of the car onto axle stands, lift the bonnet to see which side of the car the washer fluid reservoir is on, then remove the front wheel on that side and then either remove the wheel arch liner or just remove enough of its fixings to allow you to reach the washer pump which will be mounted on the washer reservoir - I'd hope that replacing that pump is possible without removing the front bumper cover.

Yes I changed that and it didn’t work.

For the possible benefit of others, where was that valve thing located in the car?

That nozzle is advertised that it comes with valve but I don’t know other, there was only hose inside the third brake light

Ah, so you have just replaced the nozzle at the end of the rear washer system, if I was correct, the part that I referred to further back up this thread is more likely to be the root cause of this problem - but if you or anyone else on this forum cannot point to where this part is in the car, then that is a problem. Replacing the pump, might solve your problem - but it might not.

Good luck!

Well what I was able to find was only hose that you can change andd only thing where I found valve(supposed to be) was the nozzle part. it is only straight hose from pump to rear washer. I think.
