Sounds like 10a charging rate ?

Think I will! start off at 13a, run for half hour or hour then back off to 10a or 8a when left unattended.I

Need to work on hit disappation. Each 13a plug in the chain is getting warm when running at 13a.  Using a 13a short gang with surge protection, in to a 16a orange power extension through the letter box and the ip67 spec charger unit.  Must get one of those brush letter box inners to reduce draught.

Overall pleased but also want to do a bit of rapid charging as  much to see how close I can get to the 135 kW theoretical speed even I only get 25 kWh as a get me home charge.

All good fun.

Be extremely careful when using extension cord(s).

The charging 3-pin cable has the brick near the plug to both do signalling and safety check. One of safety check is to ensure the plug pins doesn't overheat. You will loose that when using extension cord at the other end of the cord.

Having said that, I've used extension cord charging at AirBNB in Skye. But I set it at 5 amps and monitored it for a few hours before going to bed. Also had Home Assistant to toggle charging on/off every 9 minutes (if 10min off and the car goes to sleep). Overall this is lower power draw than electric heater. Done over 2 nights it was able to get us comfortably back to Fort William, or quite close but doable if didn't rapid charged using CPS.

London got these hidden kerb-side charge points

London is getting 570 'flat and flush' sidewalk EV chargers

EV drivers in Camden, London, will soon see a major boost in sidewalk chargers, thanks to Camden Council and Trojan Energy.

I see lots of them on the map and looks like even has sensor to tell if nearby space is occupied.

image.png

Curious, I signed up for free and getting one of those mahoosive adaptor in the post soon. 0 cost to me so far. In the portal, there is also a setting for smart charging to minimise carbon emissions and thus price, sounds like how Intelligent Octopus Go works.

Downside is less elegant solution to EV driver with the huge adaptor, compared to simple lamp post sockets (I've also tried). But up side is that 22 kW charging can be made available along any road for every single park-able space.

If this can be rolled out everywhere, no more social divide.

I bet the selfish will park on them as they do wherever they park regardless of how wide the road and how narrow the footpath.

What was one of my company's subsidiaries, Source London, I see s now branded TotalEnergies as that is who we sold the division too ie Total and they now have 2,700 in London and now they are installing n Birmingham too.

The above is just in Camden and this is what we found was having to deal with each individual London council, of which there were over 40 compared to Paris where we only had to deal with one metropolitan authority, much easer to get our chargers installed and get our 5,000 Pininfarini little sold state battery'd Bluecars on the streets.

The install of the chargers, particularly the powerful DC ones requiring lots of 3 phase power was oft a challenge and expense. Did do RHD versions and launch on London but was nowhere near as big as the Pars scheme. Required subsidies to keep going in these early stages which the Paris mayor stopped dong so the scheme ended but t was reckoned to be taking up to 100k cars of the road at peak times. Hireable in 6 minute slots and best result was 40 hires in a day I recall. Particular useful n gong from Garde du Nord to Garde to Lyon for example.

I saw those car share EV around London during early days, it was brilliant. Parked up and plugged in, always ready for the next person hiring. Reduces the need for private cars and gives people access to cars when needed. Unlike other car share scheme, I think always plugged into chargers make it both more functional and reduces cost of vehicle. Shame it went away.

The adaptor is making its way to me today. Really quick delivery, 3 kg parcel 🤣 not something I'd want to carry around in my car for just-in-case.

Jolt advertising board chargers also tripled in the area I frequently drive past. Almost always has available space when I drive pass. Free 7 kWh daily.

As far as those that have no Home Charging or workplace etc cheap BEV charging Sir Keir Starmer MP & PM is announcing absolutely nothing to encourage more to be driving BEV,s in the UK or is the secretary of state for transport.

No reducing the VAT on Public Charging or any real incentives.

So today as MP,s or people discussing it saying running an EV i cheaper and not talking about where Public Charging might cost from 60 pence to 89 pence a kWh for Rapid or faster charging, or even for what was and is called fast charging and might be 11 kWh of a speed & still have a penalty for going over an amount of time using one of these.

'Build them and they will come and buy'.

Well if it is mostly Business Users and Motability buying (Leasing) new BEV,s and then they selling them used cheaply that is not going to be at the front of anything really, it is as things are now.

My recent use of Public Chargers that Charge Place Scotland administer.

I have used more than these 10 sessions but that was paid using my ElectroVerse card so does not show.

About £30 with that.

Also i have used TESLA Non Tesla and £20 with them, & about £50 at MFG chargers..

(n the past Month maybe 150 kWh charging at home @ 6.7 pence so £10.00 giving me 500 miles.)

This CPS 10 charging sessions costing £97 gave me about 630 miles.

.........................................................................................................................................

£97 if buying petrol to do 630 miles @ £6 a gallon would be the same as 16 gallons.

So about the same as getting 39.3 MPG.

I would be best using a PHEV and running on cheap electric for daily around home and buying petrol on trips if i was getting 45 mpg or better.

I do enjoy EV driving and a MINI Electric.

A bigger battery EV would reduce my use & expense of Public Charging.

As it is home charging is taking me 100 miles before needing to public charging.

Going 200 miles or more before needing to would mean 'Much cheapness'.

Another solution built into the kerb itself, much more elegant than the lance based solution I posted earlier.

I hope it's strong enough to withstand being run over by lorries such as bin lorries?

Should be, Rheinmetall make tanks as well as other defence equipment 😉

The cable certainly wouldn't survive anything like that. But I'd hope the physical presence car directly over the charge point would provide enough protection when it is plugged in.

As a kerb, looks like the top plate in combination with concrete base surround should be able to provide similar level of robustness as regular concrete kerb.

All coming from my untrained eye. As always, expert opinions are welcome.

I would hope that the water-proofing seals are military grade - or minimum IP65.

Edit - I see the complete unit is IP54, control module is IP68.

I am thankful for having my fixed tariff with Eon Next until the end July next year and it is 6.5 pence a kWh for 7 hours, so charging on the 3 pin lead and the house through the night.

Public charging is too expensive now and i would not run a private EV if only able to Public charge as that would be more expensive than an ICE getting 45 mpg & better.

As i look at cars to get i am holding off to see what is what.

Pretty sure i do not want to buy anything anymore, not sure if i will use Motability when the Electric MINI goes back or before due back next August i return early.

The way prices are for EV,s Motability looks as good as and Lease or Personal Contract Hire Deals with deposits.

Maybe a PHEV will suit me as long as charging at home still available.

I would just be wary of this new surge for plug in PHEVs. One might say twice as much to go wrong but I would say 4 times as much to go wrong. Our Clio non plug hybrid went in to control system melt down just as RAC charged a tyre. Hybrid system went bonkers, did not know which of the 15 modes of ICE and EV to choose. Dash lit up like a Xmas tree. Too complex for its own good. Loving the new Mini Cooper E pure EV. If Renault 4 does not work out am thinking of a 5 door cabriolet Mini for myself to go along with Scenic !

@lol-lol Is that ' a 5 door or a cabriolet' ?

It was Countryman PHEV,s i was looking at, used.

As for EV,s I am interested in seeing the Renault 4, but more so the Skoda Epiq.

I have had a potential offer today of a car that i will have to wait and see about when the owner makes up his mind over what they want to be doing when their finance arrangement ends.

Damn, cannot have both, shame.

R4 just arrived at local Renault.

Would have opted for 40 kwh LFP but not confirmed it is coming to uk.

Only getting the £1500 off so far notified.

I think Renault miffed that they might only get the 1500 when cousin company Nissan might get the full 3750, looks a bit of a fix up to favour uk made EVs.
