Karoq and VCDS upgrade /modifications..?

Featured Replies

Having traded my 14 plate Octavia Scout for a Karoq, I'm interested to learn if my rear tail lamps can be initiated  via VCDS to match the front  DRLs...?

Having had the rear near side foglamp initiated on the Scout, making a matched pair.... I'm  also interested  to learn if this is possible on my Karoq..?

Finally,  have Karoq owners had any mods initiated via VCDS..?

Cheers,

Don't know about VCDS I'm afraid, but I did exactly that on my Karoq using Carista.

There was originally just a 'Scandinavian DRL' option in the menu which turned on the number plate lights as well as the tails, but now you can enable just the tail lights as rear DRLs and adjust their brightness.

Phutters thank you for that; I've  been away from Briskoda for so long that I can't believe the format has changed so much..!

So, Carista I shall research, however, has the mod affected your lighting in any adverse way...?

And finally,  are there any other mods that you've employed on your Skoda..?

Nope. It works as intended.

I couldn't really understand the logic of not having the tail lights as DRLs too. You've probably seen a lot of cars driving on front DRLs only when it's nearly dark with nothing lit on the rear at all, like I have.

If you've twiddled your headlight knob to automatic then this doesn't happen; if you don't have automatic headlight illumination or don't use it, there is clearly a danger of driving round with just the front running lights on and nothing else.

Probably not the best idea really.

Before the advent of DRLs you knew you needed to turn the outside lights on when you couldn't read the instruments any more, but these days the dials are lit all the time so if your common sense has disappeared (or you never had any in the first place), you probably won't have noticed that it's got dark outside and that nobody else can see you either.

The only other thing of note that I've used Carista for on this car is to change the throttle response from gradual to direct, and that does make a difference.

I've had the full subscription version of Carista for yonks, mostly for diagnostics and latterly for winding off electric handbrake motors to be able to do discs and pads. Don't really want to be paying a garage - and certainly not a dealership at £120 an hour - to do stuff I can do myself.

It's cost me about 80p a week over that time, but there's no doubt it's saved me a whole load more.

Thanks for that...6 years ago, or more, a member, 'Blacksheep' kindly adapted my Octavia Scout to give me twin rear fogs & a remote closing boot, Ì already had remote opening...

My Caroq has virtual pedal,  the salesman said it didn't... Want to know about your country...ask a tourist...

Want to know something about a car....ask a potential buyer who has researched it....that aside, I've  no idea what a virtual cockpit is..!

Knowing that there's normally more than meets the eye I'm  keen to twin my Caroq rear fogs, activate the rear lamps for DLR, and possibly fade out the interior lights.

All I've got to do now is locate a kind soul who has the wearwithall to do it.....

A few months ago I was following an almost new Mini along an unlit 70mph dual carriageway in near darkness. There wwere no lights on at all and the car was only just visible. I eventually got past and saw that the front large circulat DRLs were on, which, I suppose, gave sufficient light to just about see to the front. The driver appeared to have no idea what a hazard they were causing.

I've  seen new, and I mean NEW cars with the DRLs switched off.

A conversation with the salesman at Skoda, Sway, told me of customers who request them to be turned off prior to driving out of the showroom....

Some folks have little idea of self preservation, which I find astonishing...

Self preservation is put on the side & dipped beam in poor visibility, and do not trust that Autolights mean you have front and rear lights.

Daytime / Daylight Running lights were to let others like pedestrians and cyclists see cars moving towards them in daylight, yet a car stopped / parked with an engine on has them shining, and the likes of Mk2 Fabia vRS had / have ridiculous ones in the position of fog lights and still people think they are fog lights.

Even police officers that pulled up Mk2 Fabia vRS drivers for fog lights on thought they were.

(It was a joy to ask them where the Front Fog light switch was, same with Car SAlespeople that said the cars had Fog Lights as the brochure / adverts did,

and to show the DRL on / off switch in the fuse box to police officers, but that eventually was done away with.)

There are UK MOT Examiners that fail Mk2 Fabia vRS for not having working sidelights and need shown that the DRL / Sidelight unit is the sidelights when dim.

There are plenty muppets on the roads with no idea what lights there cars have.

Come the winter and getting dark late afternoon there are plenty crap bright DRl Renault / Kia and others going about with just them on.

Dim / Dip as Volvos had were pretty damn good and the rear side / position lights were on as well.

There was an issue when the Citroen C4 Picasso had a facelift in 2020/2011. Prior to this the car had small 5W sidelights in the headlight unit. When the facelift was introduced with DRLs they didn't bother with a new headlight unit, they just supplied the same ones with the same sidelight bulbs still fitted but unconnected and serving no purpose whatsoever. Much correspondance on forums about how to get the redundant sidelights to work, and several reports of cars failing MOTs because the testers said 'ithe bulbs are fitted so they must work', despite the DRLs dimming to act as sidelights.
