non mechanical fault not repairable

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought my Scala SEL on a PCH in May 2021.

I picked up a rattle under the front dash near the digital screen, however due to COVID Skoda was unable to drive my car to test for the fault. So it finally went into my local Skoda on the end of 2021. The car has been at my local Skoda twice already for the same rattle under the dash and now going in for the 3rd time.

I was driving today and heard a clunk on the passenger side, like something fell onto the metal on the bottom of the seats. When I arrived at my destination I found the manual Lombard handle had just fallen off its self. There are a couple of other niggles, the plastic covering on the window support bars are loose/not clipped in correctly.

So my question is, what options do I have, I am clearly not impressed/happy with the build quality of the car, seems I got a dud car. Do I have the right to ask for a new car? I can’t see them fixing the “rattle”, what are they going to do on the 3rd attempt that they could not do on attempt 1 & 2, and now other things just falling off.

Thanks for reading through my question.

That is the automatic self destruct Lombard version in the photograph.

Go for it, I'm sure they are as much in need of a good laugh as anyone!

Sorry to make fun but I just cant stop laughing after looking at the photo to find out what the heck a Lombard was!

I have placed it back on, but thats not really the point, the point I was trying to say, the car is a year old, things should not be falling off, rattling. poor build quality.

Would you or anyone else be happy paying £210 per month for a car that is not up to scratch? The rattle is loud enough to go over when the radio is on, I do not want to drive another 2 years with the noise.

I did find this and was wondering how accurate it is:

"If you bought the car on hire purchase (HP) or personal contract purchase (PCP), it’s the finance company who’s legally responsible if there are problems with your car. You can reject it anytime during your agreement as long as you stop using the car after you've discovered the problem. Contact the finance company and tell them you're rejecting the car and ask them to arrange for it to be repaired or replaced."

Tbh you'll have no chance rejecting a car for a rattle and the lumber handle coming off

One is already fixed and the other will just ba case of finding whatever is loose and cable tying it up.

Sorry to make little of your issues but it does make me laugh when people talk about rejecting a vehicle for those sorts of reasons.  Chances are the rattle is a five minute fix but the dealer can't be bothered.

The usual on a rattle is that someone at a dealership points out the 6 month / 6,500 mile bit in the Warranty T&C's and fair enough if a rattle or fitment issue is apparent in that time,

report it, ASAP,  never put off raising the issue.  have it recorded.

have them start a 'Claim' and as an Approved Repairer do their worst.  If it happens after 6 months then that does not mean it can just be passed off as tough luck.

As to the seat & the handle.   Does it get used?

If Skoda CZ are crap tell the world. Or sometimes crap.   THEY MIGHT EVENTUALLY SORT OUT QC AT THE FACTORY.

If they are doing well or a Dealership is then also tell all that you can.

@roottoot

Hi thanks for getting in touch. As said the car is now going back for the same rattle for the 3rd time. After they have "fixed" the rattle, for the 1st couple of days there is no rattle but the noise returns. (My dealership, has confirmed there is something causing the rattle).

Regards to the left seat lumba support lever, 90% of the time I am the only person in the car, the passanger seat only gets used every other weekend. Meaning that the lever has not been touched for a fair while as when I got the car I moved the lever into the on position.

@skomaz, Now I perfectly get what you are saying, however I am the consumer, I am paying a premium for a service/item and I do not think it is acceptable build or quality from a reputable car brand and a car costing £22k and that the car has been in and out of the dealership since August 2021 when the car was only purchased May 2021.

I would also like to point out this is not the only fault, there was an issue with the driver seat, would not hold its position, the back would go down, this got replaced. As said seems I have a dud car "poor quality/build" and Skoda needs to make right.

Thanks again for reading my post.

Hi,

Unfortunately it’s on a lease.

I have an update, I have been dealing with someone at Marshall Skoda and they have found several issues. Some items are on back order and they have repaired the rattle, will give it a few days to see if it returns again. However the person I am dealing with said that if the rattle returns, we may need to chat with the branch I originally took the lease out with (no details) on what they would offer.

But I am so far happy with the outcome of their investigation.

What diligence, I cannot even begin to imagine the sheer amount of manpower & brainpower that was needed to arrive at that definitive conclusion, whatever they discovered must have been a state secret though.

So a standard leasing rate & no premium then?

Well I am, super sorry I do not earn £100k p/a.

With the rising cost of everything, £200 is a premium for me.

This is for everyone on this forum, if you do not have anything nice, polite, helpful to say, don't say anything at all.

It is really discargaing when Someone ask for some advise and you get mostly unhelpful and possible discrimnative answers to my spelling (not knowing who and what struggles I have personally). i really do not appreaciate it at all.

So again please remove yourself from my post if you unable to contain yourself and provide a helpful answer to my question.

Hi,

I have had a few problems with my car and if you try to work with the dealer they generally will try to sort your issues. If that dos not work the "chat" on the Skoda site usually gets something done.

I still have 1 outstanding issue but the dealer/Skoda have been nothing if not helpful in trying to fix though we have still not got down to the fix. Give the dealer a chance to sort things, give them a list of what is wrong and keep at them till they get fixed. It may help if you can take a video when the problem is occurring as intermittent issues can be very difficult to pin down 😞

John

A premium means paying over the odds usually for the promise of a better (premium) product or service, examples being premium fuels, premium oils, premium warranty plans etc, my question and subsequent comment was nothing to do with your spelling nor how much you earn but a misunderstanding from believing what you wrote to be what you meant to express.

I don't earn £100K a year either, in fact I have earned zero since the Covid lockdown.

I hope you get the noise resolved to your satisfaction, the lumbar support lever will just pop back on, both those and the seat rake adjustment knobs have repeatedly fallen off every Skoda and VAG vehicle I have ever owned, they are cliipped on and once they are knocked off the first time, usually by me loading long stuff they never retain again with the same force, eventually they fall off by just looking at them & I then glue them on if they havn't already gone walkies.

As has been said you have zero chance of getting a new car out of your leasing company, to them it is you that is reponsable for dealing with Skoda over any warranty issues.
