Buying a replacement front bumper for Octavia Estate II A5

Featured Replies

I need to replace the  front bumper on my 2006 Octavia estate  which was damaged when i hit a  deer when on holiday in France.  The damaged bumper has sensors (4) but no washers for lights. My problem is that I cannot find the exact part either on ebay or a pattern part and having tried to look at VIN number etc just get more confused ( I cannot take part off until i have a replacment) . So my rather basic question is do the bumpers for Mk 11estates  have a general fit so if I buy one without sensor holes i can just cut?

The car is reliable and i have just changed a few key bits (turbo, ABS module) but as old not worth very much so I really just want to have a cheap repair which i will try to do myself (this was the advice of my friendly local garage).

Thanks

If you're hunting for e new bumper you need the version described as "bumper cover for vehicles with parking aid", part number 1Z0807221B, catalog entry HERE.  From my own experience of playing bumpers I don't believe you should have any problems starting with a plain bumper and drilling the holes for the parking sensors; the difficulties arise when you're working with a bumper that has headlamp washers fitted.  Given that you will have to respray a replacement bumper blade if you buy new, I'd go hunt the scrappies for one in either your colour or close enough that a rattlecan respray should work OK.

If you're going to do the replacement yourself remember you will need the plastic rivets as they're not reuseable.

BTW have you checked for damage to the bumper mounts also?  The two plastic top supports that run between bumpwe and wing can be a bit fragile.  Part #7 in the diagram.

Thank you  for the really helpful replies and well noted on the need for the special fixings and likely need for bumper mounts which I will surely need on the one side along with splash  guard and a new water bottle which  has a large hole in it.

If you find a bumper cover that has neither the washers or PDC I wouldn't worry too much as the cutouts for them are normally marked in the moulding and as you only need the PDC a simple drill out the hole

How extensive, and particularly, how far back is the damage?  I replaced a front wing and headlamp plus bracketry on our 1.9tdi and had some fun with the small brackets that connect three ways at the back of the headlamp mount.  They connect together the inner wing (welded onto the chassis), the back of the headlamp platform and the inside of the wing.  Great fun working out whereabouts in 3D space everything should go and applying some kinetic and torsion persuasion to the piece of the inner wing that had been pushed out of alignment,

Fortunately the damage seems to be limited as hit was just on the edge of the bumper and  not in the middle. I have driven car a month or so since the accident and everything such as AC etc seems to working fine.
