Tyres for '17 L&K 220 hatch

Featured Replies

As above, currently need new rears, got hankooks all round at the moment but wondering if there's a go-to tyre for these. The idea is that when the fronts go I'll swap on the same again...

Size is 235/45/r18w

It rather depends on if you want comfort or sports car handling as to which are best suited to your needs.

Generally anything with Eco or sport in its name will be firmer.  And when temperatures fall will be harder still.   Also the latest generation of summer tyres are pretty poor in colder rain (below about +10c) so not really suitable for UK from November to March

Best bet is to get all season tyres, and Michelin cross climate 2 is probably the best for UK climate at the current time

If you are a Hankook fan, then look at Kinergy 4S2

I use rainsport 5. Had them on my old Merc, Audi and octavia. Never had an issue with them. Also decent price aswell. About £90 on camskill.

Michelin Primacy 4 would be a good choice and comes out well. I found the Michelins I ran on my previous Superbs were more expensive but always lasted longer meaning it cost the same!

Continental PremiumContact 6 has also come out well in recent tests

I love tyre topics because nobody agrees! Hard disagree from me on the Michelin Primacy. They do last for ages because they are too hard. They are woeful in the wet and the winter as a result.

^^^ Primacy 4 are spawn of the devil and all about getting range / mpg / so ECO that are OEM on EV's and other vehicles through lack of grip / friction so traction.

Ditch Finders from Michelin.

You've experienced them too then!

Less than 1 week on my Corsa-e before Cross Climates were fitted.  When I had driven a media car they had Pilot Sport on to be sure that they never experienced the terrible traction that there is with Primacy 4.  Not that they bother that much when you see motoring journalist accept cars with over inflated tyres and then comment on handling or ride yet not adjust the pressures or even check them.

I had Hankook Ventus Evo on my Passat after the original continentals wore out. I thought they were okay to be honest, definitely more confidence inspiring than the primacy.

Current superb came with Bridgestone Potenza. I've found them to wear quite quickly (which I take as a good thing) they don't screech much either :)
