vRS vs Clio172

Featured Replies

Who cares, lets not split hairs! Does it really matter, they're BOTH great cars, certainly compared with my dad's old Allegro!

Wasn't attempting to criticise Andy vRS, I was just suprised by A) the speed of his Fabia vRS B) I thought i'd shed some light on the specs of that particular Clio in comparison to some other performance cars C) The driver.

looks awesome steve!

hi there guys,

just spotted a link to this thread and thought I would comment.

It is quite likely that any of the cars that were at TGP would have been catching us on the straights - even the MG, as we were over the noise limit for that day and were having to short shift 3/4/5th. This was especially evident on the start / finish straight and the back straight under the dunlop bridge where we were obviously much slower due to our peak power being above 6,000 rpm. We feel that it lost us between 2/3 seconds a lap.

Even with this the results show the following:

http://www.tunergp.co.uk/2005/download/ResultGPClass.pdf I think we were about 7 seconds a lap quicker than the skoda.

We know Hamish (Chip Tuning) and what he can do with the remapping on the Volvos (and other cars) and he is marvelous at getting the power out of the oil burners. The whole thing is that any car can be quick if driven well, We took a Volvo S40 1.8 petrol around in the 1.33's about 3/4 weeks ago just to prove that you don't need a quick car to have a laugh there as well as a few quick laps.

The 172 that you have as a ring toy - what has been done to it, as you say it is an L.A.D. car?

Anyhow, hope this cleared up a few queries / questions :-)

P.S. The Team Lohen car had a brand new 10 mile engine in it - hence why it was not being leathered around the track on that day. ;-)

Clio is definitely faster but you have to rev the nuts off it. No torque. Action is up around 6000 to 7250rpm. The Furby is actually faster at one place which involves climbing a hill for 2 miles. Torque torque torque!

The clio needs to be driven up here to really make them go well.

You can raise the rev limit to about 7,400 safely but there are re-maps available to take it up to 7,800.

Hope you enjoy the new ring toy.

Hi andy the only skoda that i can find in the results from TGP 05 was Chip Tuning's with a lap time of 1min34.77, compared to our quickest lap of 1min27.33

i hope you're going to TGP this year, as our car is a little bit different!

PS our PAS line exploded the night before last years TGP!!!

oh hello Yoz!! i should bother to read the rest of the thread in future lol!!!

Yozza's Clio weighs 90 kg less

and the rest!!! its down to about 920kg these days, running 205bhp @ wheels

LMAO @ yoz being a "pro driver"!!! he's a "pro drinker" but not a "pro driver"!!!

Fred, does that mean Yoz will have a heavy beer gut also? ;)

R3

:)

PS our PAS line exploded the night before last years TGP!!!

this is expected..it's a renault, lining the bottom of JD power! Great car though.

Yoz is best part of 22st, hence when i drive the car its SO much quicker ;)

Renaults are built so ****, thats why we removed the ENITRE interior = no rattles!!!

Andy vRS = owned

sorry :o couldn't resist...

You say that, however, on the day, which was the quicker car on track? ;)

:D

Hi Steve

Very interesting review. Sounds similar to what you were telling me when you gave me a lift to ring racing. Dont know if you remember?

We got the jetta fixed and had great fun on the sunday. Once again thanks for the lift.

I can understand how youve done so many laps now, im already trying to get out there again asap! just with a bit more power from the jetta.

Adam

:) awesome!

Hi,

glad you got sorted out. I was looking for you on Sunday to see if all was OK but with the chaos in the carpark it wasn't easy to find anybody. I saw a silver vRS with leather interior. Was that you?

Steve

Hi Steve, will you be about on the 18th August, the brisky ring trip? Hope so mate.

I hope so. I am stuck working in an offshore fab yard in Scotland at the moment which is spoiling my fun a bit but I am due to start working in Gremany again mid August or early Sept.

Oh dear, I think cliosport got upset with this thread

Having just wasted 20min reading this I am glad I own a skoda. Not because it is slower or handles worse but beacuse I can hang out on this froum where as a whole people seem to have an IQ of more than 4

hellfires car is slower than a 172cup specifically mine
