The manual mentions the keybit in the fob, but  makes no mention of where it is used...

Is there a secret keyhole some place for emergency access??

 

There is a cover that needs popping off on one of the front door locks to allow for emergency access. 🔑

On the later KESSY fobs the key part is also used to open up the fob to change the battery, instead of the previous method of butchering it with screwdrivers.

Yes, found this in the manual now, but can't get it to work.  Is it supposed to be an obvious catch? or is this method just using the key bit to pry from within?

Is there a similar way to start the car?  Or does this also unlock the start stop button function?

The fob needs to be positioned next to the where the steering wheel lock would have been to activate the car.

The Hollywood method, works on all vehicles.

 

You reach under the dashboard by feel while looking over the top furtively, grab hold of the convenient placed cable bundle and pull down hard, they are specially designed to break and 2 of them will self strip the insulation from their ends at the same time, you touch the wires together creating a pyrotechnic confirmation flash and the engine will start, you must remember to give a smug smile to disable the immobiliser and steering lock.

On most Skoda models (haven’t checked latest Karoq) it is also used to turn the front passenger airbag on and off (open passenger door, and there is a key operated rotary on side of dashboard)
