I'm fed up with having to wring out my chamois leather cloth when drying the car off to avoid dreaded water marks. I've seen lots of alternatives but am at a bit of a loss to be honest.

Microfibre ones seem to be the best as they can absorb more water which means less time wringing it out and I'm also looking for something which doesn't just move the water around but lifts it away from the bodywork.

Advice would be much appreciated.

I use a soft plastic wipe before using the chamois to remove most of the water. I usually only wring the chamois out once as a result.

I got a turtle wax model, about £10 from Halfrauds although I think there are cheaper versions.

Personally I use a water blade ( you must have the car spotless and free of anything that might scratch when using one of these, but I've used one for years with no problems )

The Meguiars water magent is a superb addition, and soaks up far more water than a high quality 100% chamois, and it's all I ever use.

the best cloth for drying are scrim.as used by window cleaners.you wont find them in shops.you need to got them from a cleaning supplier.they not cheap but last for years.

I was looking at the Water magnet from Meguiars and wondered what the difference was between this and the microfibre one because they both claim to have the same absorbency over a normal chamois.

I ONLY use the megs water magnet, chamios create nice swirls, aqua blades create nice scratches....

This is from experience of correcting and repairing the damage caused by the above.

By using the magnet you can throw it in the washing machine after every use and keep it clean and soft.

The choice is yours, speed or quality and a good turn of speed.....

PS: I can dry the whole Altea before the magnet needs wringing out...

I ALWAYS use Meguires plush terry towel to dry the car. I used to use a chamois but that leaves swirls. Cost me £10 from Halfrauds but that, and my Meguires wash mitt, are the best car care buys I have EVER bought!!!

I remember seeing an autocar test where they totally slated the maguires chamois/sythetic chamois saying that it wasn't that good and that it was very expensive. IIRC they rated the halfords own synthetic as a much better product. I can't remember which chamois they said was the best though

Try a big microfiber towel, after the blade. Also, to make the wet side perfect, use Ionic water filter for the hosepipe. Roger M

Can I just clarify I am using the Maguiars Water Magnet Micrfibre towel, not a synthetic chamois leather

Go to Aldi and get their microfibre cloth plus duster pack for £1.29. The microfibre does the whole car dry in 3 or 4 wrings. I am a cheapskate though.

I took advise as posted any ended up going for the Meguiars water magnet. Used on Saturday morning and it really is fantastic.

It took about a 1/3 of the time to dry off the whole car and didn't just move the water about but seemed to lift it straight off. Another good point is you can just stick it in the washing machine once finished so you have a lovely clean cloth for the next time you use it.
