Bought a Fabia Mark 3 from a dealer with only 33,000 miles and we are having suspicions that the engine may have been replaced or tampered with (lots of problems) -- where can I find the stamped in code on the engine please so that I can compare it to the log book?

I can not help you with a mk3 Fabia but a Master Tech at a dealership should.

 

With Mk2 Fabia 1.4 TSI Twinchargers Skoda were very lax and in some cases lying to owners.

Engines were replaced, like for like, owners were told no need to inform the DVLA, some were told the engines had been stamped, some it was just the barcode.

It was a farce and still is as some replacement engines have been replaced and some cars might now have engines robbed from other cars.

Not fun if the Police or the DVSA are ever checking engine numbers.

I have a friend who's relative had a Mk3 Fabia 1.4 TDI / DSG with an engine that was ruined from the overheating issue / water pump and a faulty DSG and that car was got rid of.

EDIT.

It was a 2016 car.

mrspatch if you read and when necessary (as now) refer to your Driver's Handbook (Owner's Manual) you'll know more about your car than many long term owners.  If you've not got a paper printed copy you can download a pdf copy from the link that follows.

 

Have a look at the 'Technical data' section for details of the vehicle data sticker, which - " is located on the base of the luggage compartment and is also stuck inside the service schedule." 

 

ETA 2:  Sorry I should have put this bit here - "Engine number
The engine number (three-digit code letter and serial number) is stamped onto the engine block."

Is it at the back of the engine?

Sorry I only know what's in the (good) book -

I avoid going into the engine bay of a diesel even more than a petrol as it's usually a very dirty business.

Not sure whether you have a CUS or a CUT code engine (what is the engine number on the V5c?), but this listing for a CUS engine block shows some stamped info on the first and second photos.  SKODA FABIA VW AUDI 1.4TDI CUS CUSB ENGINE BLOCK 04B103024T 04B103011T 2014-2017 | eBay

 

This one is upside down, and I think of the gearbox end of the engine.  Will be a shedload of stuff in the way of seeing this area, no doubt:

I thought you were comparing with the log book from your OP.

So it was the engine number on the engine you required. 

 

What are the cars problems and why do you thing the engine has been replaced or tampered with?

The engine might well have needed replacement parts.

 

There should be a Service, Warranty & Recall action history on the Skoda System if done in the Manufacturers Warranty period or in the dealer network.

Yes, as I said in OP I wanted to check what the code is directly stamped in engine.. But didn't know where to find it.  Multiple problems including the dpf being bypassed. 

Also have checked if there were any recalls on it.. But not.  Just gathering information for a possible court case.

You want a Report by an Independent Expert for an court case.

They are not that expensive and there are plenty Independent Experts around the country.

Then if you are a RAC Member there can be help there with Legal Claims.

It was a dealer.  And its illegal to sell a car with a bypassed dpf.  I've received legal advice and taking it one step at a time. Numerous other problems too that I don't want to get into as I'm stressed through the roof and trying to calm myself down 😭

Stupid that the seller is not taking the car back, or putting a new system on the car.  

 

Did they know it was bypassed.   Was it actually just stripped out?

 

Was it detected at a MOT carried out before or after they got the car in.  Many DPF deletes are not detected at MOT's.
