You don't need it. It's just a warm air feed to the airbox, no?

yeah pete is it just a useless thing then ??

It sucks heat off the exhaust and into the intake. There is a wax capsule thermostatic controlled flap inside the plastic air ducting that decides how much hot air to take off the exhaust according to ambient temperature.  Took my hose off, it's never made the remotest difference even in bitterly cold weather. I also removed the control flap and blocked the hole so it can only take in cool air from the front of the car.

sounds good tmb will take on that advice 👍

It's a legacy thing from the days of carburettors aimed at stopping carb icing under certain cicumstances, so at £50+ for something that doesn't do anything to aid the running, just do as @TMB says and delete it

Don't block the entry point where it goes into the airbox though.  Can't remember the arrangement on the MPI, but on airboxes that have a thermostat for incoming air source, they tend to default to 'all warm' if/when that thermostat fails. If you block that entry you'll find the car goes even worse!

You don't need the thermo controlled flap at all. I took mine out altogether. Now it just takes in cool air from the front of the car as I blocked up the hot air hole to stop the engine taking in warm air from the engine bay. If your mate has a cone filter his engine will be taking in the warm air from the engine bay, which I guess doesn't matter a great deal but I don't think it's ideal.

yeah im not a fan of those things tbh and when he showed it to me coming off the induction pipe there is a small silicone pipe which in all honesty neither of us had a clue what it does he just tucked it back lol im sure there must be a reason for the tube.
