@ElsonThe Haldex Service is due at 3 years / 30,000 miles or sooner, was it done before you collected the car?

Good question, one I'm not sure of. Due in for it's 3 year service in a couple of months so I doubt it just yet, and it only has 24k miles on so won't have triggered it.

My previous Kodiaq started making a noise from the rear when manoeuvring out a space with full steering lock on. And this was after Haldex oil change and pump filter cleaned @ 3rd service.

New Haldex pump and oil changed again under warranty.

Sorry to hear that happened but great it was under warranty! I think I'll bring forward the service before 3 years to be extra sure on the warranty!

@Elson If the car has a FMDSH then what is important is that the actual history is of the Servicing to the manufacturers recommendations.

Not just showing that a Dealership had the car in for services but might not have carried out stuff due because an owner did not want to pay for it and the Dealer did not want to do it to a Skoda Approved Used car even though due or outstanding.

The fact many just change oil and not do proper servicing / cleaning of filters or replacement is something Skoda / VW are well aware off, as are Dealerships who will be able to say that is not required.

Absolutely incredible detail and greatly appreciated! Thank you very much for sharing this, incredibly useful.

I suspect the 4x4 kicks in more often than I'd expected.

After driving FWD cars for many years I've become accustomed to swapping wheels around at 10,000 miles or so to equalise wear. (I prefer to change them all at the same time so I can switch all 4 wheels to a new make or to all-season.) But when I measured my tread depth at 7000 miles all 4 wheels were much the same! I'm thinking that on FWD cars the front tyres wear down more under acceleration, but on a Haldex car the rear wheels are helping out so the tyre wear is equalised?

Chris

Good point on the 4x4 kicking in. My old superb 280 kicked in fairly often, I do wonder if eco drive mode sacrifices some times where the 4x4 would kick in.

Will do some extra tests over the next couple of days and see (or rather hear/feel!) If I'm going a bit doolally or if there's something there!

By way of a small update:

Haven't been able to replicate the sound from the rear properly since thinking it was there before.

On doing a few 100-350 mile one-way trips, mpg is a steady 40.5-42.3mpg average in normal mode (not eco).

3rd gear is a lot of fun.

Android auto Spotify is notably lower quality (despite very high quality settings on the download) compared to an SD card. I feel like some fettling of Spotify's EQ will be in order at some point.

All in all, nice to have 'the fizz' back when driving a car!

AFAIK (was the case in my 2010 VW with Haldex) - the Haldex is always active in normal driving at 80/20 Front/Rear.  When you first start off it starts out at 50/50 for the first few seconds (to help avoid wheelspin on the front) and then it switches to 80/20.  You can feel this change (well you could in my old Tiguan with an old fashioned "planetary" auto gearbox). It felt almost like a phoantom gear change.   This is all the time regardless of the road conditions and how you drive.  It's in addition to the constant changing of the Front/Rear ratio in slippery conditions etc.

regards

Paul

You live and learn 🙂

Thanks roottoot..

  • Investigated the audio & EQ - now it's not bad but it sounds noticeably  better from the SD card compared to the Spotify audio coming from Android Auto. Further testing with the Spotify EQ will be needed

A bit late to this and apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but do you have Spotify set to the highest quality for streaming and downloads?

Not sucking eggs at all! Everything is set to Very High in the Spotify app, I've not had any luck on the standard settings in the car and have just lumped it a bit, but will get back into having a look tomorrow.
