Clutch slipping? Skoda warranty…

Featured Replies

I think the clutch on my 1.5 TSI is on the way out. Car still drives normally but there’s a bit of judder (not the kangarooing) sometimes when moving off, a smell of burning clutch in the engine bay and a bit of over revving out of first and second gear. A bit annoying as I drive the car carefully but as it was a hire car for a year before I got it I think the damage was done then.

The car has done 54k so what’s the chances of Skoda helping me under warranty?? Absolutely none or is there a wee chance??

Clutch like brakes is a wear item, so odds are slim.
At 54k it's a bit early for a new one, so there's a chance... besides you never know if you complain.

I did have a DPF replaced for free once, turned out my car had a service campaign for replacing the DPF pressure sensor, so I argued that if that was faulty, then my car went into limp mode as it read the soot wrong.

I’d think after multiple owners and 54K there is zero chance.

I'd imagine that they would knock it back with the car being a taxi. My mate used to have his Octavia taxi serviced at the main deaer without issue but when it came to warranty repairs, he was told using it as a taxi voids the warranty.

You normally get over revving in higher gears first eg 5th & 6th

2 chances; fat chance and no chance. And, at 54k I'd even agree with them.

For manual clutch no chance.

Being a Taxi that is just part of the running costs.

Use money saved on unnecessary oil services.

I would not be changing the oil every 10 weeks or so at 6,000-7,000 miles and just using 5w 30 FS III and maybe changing it every 20 weeks.

not a chance

Worth asking because my dad had a similar issue in his mondeo. Turned out to be the clutch release bearing and they replaced it all with a new clutch and plates as it was causing slip.
