Hi guys,

 

2007 Octavia vRS 2.0 TDi

 

Temperature gauge on instrument panel stays at the bottom.

MIL light on.

Car idle is lumpy and also for first while driving.

 

Scanned it and showed a code for a coolant temp sensor. Got a replacement from EuroCarParts and changed it. Still the same issues.

The aftermarket CTS are renowned for not being very good… worse than the OE ones, which TBH aren’t great.

So you think I should change it again for a Genuine Skoda CTS?

Personally it’s what I would be doing first.

This is not my actual engine, just a stock photo from google, but i've circled where the sensor I replaced is.

 

If only I knew whether that's G62 or the G83 radiator outlet temp sensor. I think the latter would normally be nearer the rad, but don't know on your engine.

A sticker with 3/4 characters

 

Could be in the boot under the floor mat

Sometimes printed on owner book

Can even be in a door jamb

Or the vehicle log book the engine serial number will begin with 3 or 4 letters, that is the engine code

Do you still have the sensor you took out of that location, and if so does it have a part number on it anywhere?

What colours are the wires going to the connector?

Seems like that might be neither of g62/g83. 

 

@JamieB Judging by the location, that might be the fuel temperature sensor you've circled in the photo above??

You know what, it has part number 269416 on it.

I just assumed that it was the part as it's the same, it fits and I'm sure where it is located feeds back to the coolant reservoir.

 

Now I'm having doubts. 👀

Check the wire colours going into the connector, I can compare with wiring info.

as soon as i saw "CTS" and "one from ECP" i had a feeling the next bit gonna be "its still not working".

 

VAG engines have always been fussy about non oem engine sensors. i think the different thicknesses of metals in oem vs aftermarket can make enough of a change to the resistances the ecu expects to get that it just goes "fk that, its broken" 

 

i cant say if youve accidentally put the new one in the fuel sensor hole, but assuming you havnt, try unplugging it and see how the engine runs?

If you follow the flexible hose from your red circle up to the metal ones that cross the engine, you'll see it's the one nearest the front of the car  and goes to the fuel filter, not the expansion tank.
