Rear caliper bracket

Featured Replies

Hi, having a bit of a nightmare. I have tightened bracket to 90nm but there is literally no way I am able to do the 90degrees too. I have used new bolts. Never had this issue before, they just do not budge and the hex is starting to fail.

Any ideas?

Nevermind, think I've been an idiot, the service manual was a different model, the other one shows 30+30. At least it won't be coming loose!

Yes not likely to come loose now, or ever.

I mean it did 60k on this set, so have a while before that, in which case it will go to the garage!

In case it wasn't clear, I was laughing along with you, not at you.

All been there and done similar.

Done well to get 60k, clearly treat the car with respect and not thrash it about 🤝

I know, I was laughing at myself anyway!

A pat on the back for you for using new bolts, I can see that I'll be doing that job on my wife's 2015 Polo when the rear discs condition really looks bad.

So they are hex headed no funcky spline stuff?  I have not looked at these bolts yet, I've bought front ones though for when I replace the front wheel bearing!

No, just normal hex. The bottom ones came with the pads (ate).

There's not a lot of room to get your torque wrench in either.16597886020566156404575653955268.thumb.jpg.a15a8f016be28ecd6979ca41a954aff4.jpg

Ah, the "dreaded" cap headed bolts, that certainly limits tightening torque!

I wish that I had not asked, then I could have remained cheerful about that job until I bought the new bolts!

I have done that job on a 2002 VW Polo without any problems, so here's hoping, for the future.

Lucas/TRW callipers though, have you never fancied fitting an external return spring to the handbrake levers, I have on two cars, firstly the 2002 VW Polo when it became lazy to return after maybe 3 years, fitted them to the 2015 VW Polo as soon as we got it home new, to try to avoid any dragging of rear brakes, so far so good, but it gets its brakes serviced every year now that it is 7 years old.

The handbrake cables were the easiest bit to do, could get them off by hand.

Both wheels were stuck on even though it had new tyres last year. Had to resort to a 10mph drive over speed bumps outside the house to get them to budge.

The piston kept catching on the rubber when winding it back in, would of been stuffed without the proper tool. Needless to say I fitted new front shocks, springs, arms, discs, pads and drop links quicker than I got the rear brakes done! Need a drink now!
