My motor is broken what should i do?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

So long story short i have a fabia 1.2 tdi. 6 years old with 45000 miles aproximately i bought it new.

When i left my office i started the engine and the sound of the car was not normal. After driving for a mile or so my car began sounding like a tracktor. I stopped called the mechanic and had my car picked up.

So i went to the first workshop the mechanic said engine is done. I went for a second option and they told me the same. Finally after not having a clear answer i took the car to one of the best in my town mechanics. He told me that the car has a broken crankshaft. The option is to either swap engine with a used one or sell it for scrap.

My problem is not understanding how is possible with so low miles such a problem came up. I never stressed the car and the oil changes were on time. What did i do wrong? The mechanic said that these engines are not so reliable and very weak.

Is it worth it buying a used engine if mine was broken like that with so low miles? Or it's better to search for another car?

Welcome.

The problem is that the best mechanic in your town is maybe not that good so what are the rest like that you would be using to find you an engine and fit it.

Unlikely the engine has a broken crankshaft.

Did your low mileage 1.2TDI have the VW Fix carried out at sometime as part of the Emissions scandal recall where new Engine Management was put on your car?

Yeah i did went the car for the recall for the emissions. Why?

Because that ruined many cars / engines but then many more will have noticed no difference and had no problems.

They gave a 24 month peace of mind guarantee but that never stopped owners having problems and costs incurred that VW Group never covered.

Your issue might well be unrelated.

I had 4 years with the emissions remap on and nothing happened. Wouldn't happened earlier if it was from that?

I would take the car back to where you bought it new and ask them what is really wrong, you might be able to get some help with the cost if a new engine is needed.

@souvlakomanoswhich year was your car new, was it new to you in 2015 or 2016 after mk3 Fabia were already on sale?

Diesel knock.

2 so called mechanics diagnose "Engine done" without saying what has failed, best (least worst more like) mechanic says its a broken crankshaft 🥴

I have never known an engine to be able to run let alone drive a vehicle with a broken crankshaft, and I have seen many.

Find someone who can either give a correct diagnosis or is not afraid to say "I don't know what is wrong with this one!" rather than BS.

I could not drive the car. I took the car to the mechanic with a car transfer. The noise was like a tracktor at first until it stopped starting.

Is it worth it adding a used 1.4 or 1.6 engine ? Is it possible? I have heard good things about those engines.

I highly doubt Without taking sump off that you can diagnose a broken crankshaft, a  spun bottom end would cause the engine not to start , a faulty injector would cause diesel knock like J.R. States also a jumped tooth out of time would cause a engine to run like garbage, also not blowing V.W trumpet but the crankshaft is probably one of the strongest parts of the engine I have never ever seen a crankshaft problem on a vw engine especially a diesel which are a hell of a lot stronger

A blown injector seal will sound like a tractor, as others have said there's no way the crank is broken, I've seen broken cranks on racing engines which missed a gear and over-revved, the entire engine was destroyed, block, head, the whole lot almost nothing salvageable.

Take it back to the dealer you bought it from.

Well sorry to shot you down in flames but after working most of my life in a repair garage I have seen a car run with a broken crankshaft another with a broken camshaft and to top it all i saw an old mini run (but not to drive on the road) with no plugs leads or coil fitted, a few people could have lost many pounds in bets on that one but a few saw it happenen and still could not belive it
