Toyosports intercooler

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried one of these? Significant savings over some of the alternatives but I’m not massively sure what to look for in an intercooler.

I don’t have massive plans for my wee Fabia, but if I venture onto the track I've read the stock item isn’t up to much of a prolonged hammering?

Any FMIC is an improvement over an SMIC for track day or competition work.

Does anyone know if it will be a straight swap or will it need silicone hoses and a bit of “helping” to fit?

Very late to the party here but...

Guessing it's a Mk2 since it's in this section so it uses a front mount as pictured, NOT a side mount as the mk1 did.

I got a cheap universal intercooler on my monte which has the same intercooler standard.

The intercooler I got is slightly narrower than the standard unit. But a lot taller.

I mounted it as close to the bumper as I could to maximise airflow through it, the standard ones shrouded a fair bit.

I used 2 90° 2.5" to 2.25" reducer pipes either side with 2.25" joiners to connect to the old boost pipes.

Its not a terribly technical job but I can absolutely see why someone would leave it off to be done.

Here's how the stock intercooler sits on the car.

Quite far back crammed in with the radiator and condensor.

I chose to drill the crash bar to bolt the intercooler to it.

This does fit behind the bumper ok, atleast it did on mine.

Including this photo to show that it's not terribly noticeable on the car.

I agree with Thomas in that you can get the same (or more) performance for a bit less money with a bit of work.

This job cost me about 100 euro and it proved very well worth it over summer.

I only did this to stop losing so much power from heat soak. I didn't expect to magically pick up 10hp from this, it just stopped me losing as much power from heat soak.

Also should be noted darkside do their intercooler which is a similar dimension to what I have, but it has mounting brackets and elbows welded on (where as I used silicon joiners). Their one isn't cheap but I'm sure its a great piece of kit.
