Hello - DSG 7

Featured Replies

Hi all hopefully I can get some advice here from people who drive a DSG7. Im hoping to buy a Kamiq with the DSG7. Im aware of the bad past issues with DSG's. That causes some worry as Im planning on keeping the car for probably the rest of its life and dont fancy the said expensive repairs if things go wrong. However, Im sure things have improved as the early faults have been ironed out. So should I worry or are these issues a thing of the past. Your thoughts are much appreciated.

Welcome.

That is DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG's you will be talking about.

Get a 5 year Warranty before the car is first registered.

Things should certainly have improved in the past 3 years.

But it takes to 4 years before we know.

They have been pretty good with 1.0 TSI's and not much issues reported with 1.5 TSI's.

?

What are you looking at getting?

A Karoq.

Hi, I'm looking at a 21 plate Kamiq SE L 1.0 11o bhp 10k miles ish. Im used to a TC auto so a DSG would be a first and doing my research pulls up a stack of isses but this seems to be old news. My alternative option is a Pug with a TC EAT8 auto. I prefer the Kamiq but lean to the EAT8 as its a TC so am stuck with my choice. The Kamiq wins hands down bar my worries about a DSG if of course that is a worry anymore.

If you like how it drives then the DSG should be fine.

Buy a warranty when the manufacturers one expires and one that covers the DSG.

Now clutch packs needing replaced is not an issue really & not as expensive as they were & not much reports of MCU (Mechatronic Control Unit) failing with the DQ200 fitted to a 1.0TSI.

If it helps, I have had 4 cars with 1.2 or 1.0 tsi petrol engines and DSG-7 boxes

The only one that gave some trouble was in a 2012 roomster, and DSG was fixed under warranty at 2 years old, Kept the car for another 7 years and DSG and engine never gave any other trouble.

I suspect the earlier problems are no more.

I just had a VW T-Cross for a week with the 1.0 TSI DSG. I must say I wasn't impressed with the gearbox. It was jerky and hesitant both on up changes and down changes.

My 2012 1.4 TSI DSG is so much smoother. But could be the larger engine being smoother than the 3 cylinder.

I have a 1.0l SEL Executive with DSG and changes are fine and very smooth . Only criticism is slight hesitation pulling away at junctions but then I dont put my foot down.

We've a DQ200 in our 2015 Polo GTI, which has been faultless for the five years we've had it.  Also have friends with a 2016 Fabia 1.2 which they've owned from new, with the same DSG, which has been equally faultless.  I suspect the early problems from choice of oil pre-dates both these cars.

If I was buying a '21 reg car I don't think I'd be worried.

I had a 1.0 Skoda Fabia estate with DSG for 90,000 miles with no problems.  I now have a 1.0 SEL with 13,500 miles on the clock, and, again, all fine.

I have found the change very smooth on both cars, often imperceptible, although I agree with poolebob that setting off at junctions there can be some hesitation, although at traffic lights this isn't usually a problem as you can lift your foot off the brake  slightly before you need to set off.  I find it's when you are first in the queue at a junction and have to go from brake to pressing the accelerator that the hesitation in pulling away occurs.

With the Fabia, I did try setting off at a junction in S mode to see if this helped, but it didn't as the pickup was so quick the front wheels spun before moving.
