OEM caliper part number variations

Featured Replies

This is more of a general question, as I haven't found information anywhere.

I know all  OEM VAG part numbers are similar, it's the letters following the number that vary.

The part I need for my car is 1k0615424P. Does P only stand for the colour in this case?

I've found several parts listed as equivalent to OEM 1K0615424 J,

1K0615424 D and 1K0615424 A,  is that the same part just each VAG manufacturer uses a different number for it?

I cannot find the exact specifications so I'm not sure it's the same dimensions and piston size. TRW website only returned 2 variants of caliper that'll fit my vrs, but ebay suggests there's more than 2.

I'm more than happy to buy a remanufactured caliper so long as it fits?

Don't wanna ask the seller as it happened to me before, I purchased parts I was told would fit my car but they didn't 🤨

1K0615424P - Not a Skoda part number.... VW/SEAT only....

Pm me your reg No. and I'll get back you.

FYI some specs available HERE on autodoc's site ...

Autodoc website gives me different results for the same OEM - different piston diameter and disc thickness. I need to get this right or the mechanic will kill me 😂

1K0615423M 1Z0615423 1Z0615423A are the same except for the colour.

1K0615424M 1Z0615424 1Z0615424A are the same except for the colour.

These OEM part numbers are correct for an Octavia MK2 that has build code 1KP for the rear brakes. The Skoda parts catalogue lists the 1KP build code for the RS, and 1KP is for the biggest 282x12mm rear brake discs. So there seems little doubt that build code 1KP is what the RS has.

1KP is what it says in my service book. I've figured it's 1KP 282x12mm 38mm piston, despite that I'm finding different results, even on Autodoc the calipers matching the OEM are for 41mm piston diameter 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've ordered a trw BHN 952, I'll need to wait until it arrives to be sure😂 shame cause I was hoping to get some cheap ones but all the different specifications confused me 😂

The rear brake calipers with build code 1KP have 41mm pistons.

TRW BHN952 has a 38mm piston, and is sold to replace OEM part numbers 1K0615424F and 1K0615424P.

Build code 1KP doesn't  use either of those OEM part numbers.

Where did you get that info?

Asking out of curiosity.

The website you quoted states its 38mm as well

If you search for any of the below three OEM part numbers on autodoc, you will see that they all use 41mm pistons.

The TRW BHN952 (38mm piston) and TRW BHS325 (41mm piston) rear calipers are very similar except for the piston diameter and colour. They are so similar that they even use the same brake pads, the same brake caliper carrier, and the same discs.

The 38mm piston version is used on cars such as the VW Golf MK5 GTI. The 41mm piston version is used on cars such as the Octavia MK2, Superb MK2, and Yeti.

The 38mm piston version does not have build code 1KP, although autodoc has made a mistake on one of its listings and incorrectly claims that it does have build code 1KP.

Here is autodoc's incorrect claim that TRW BHN952 (38mm piston) is for build code 1KP.

You can see from the OEM part numbers at the bottom of this autodoc listing that it is sold to replace 1K0615424F and 1K0615424P (38mm piston).

The Octavia MK2 with build code 1KP uses OEM part numbers 1Z0615424, 1Z0615424A, and 1K0615424M (41mm piston).

It's not only Autodoc, TRW website also suggests it's 38mm for 1 KP 😂 however if you search by skoda part number, 1Z0615424 the result is 41mm piston, this gives me the option of buying BHS325. However I then again searched using my number plate, and the results were BHN952, 38mm 😂 this takes the cake.

Luckily there are cheap equivalents to bhs325 on ebay - I'll order and see how this drama ends.

There's a stamp on my original caliper GNO 610/e but I couldn't find anything related to it 🤷🏻‍♀️

TRW is probably where autodoc got the mistake from. autodoc simply repeated TRW's mistake on their website.

autodoc don't make up all these details themselves, they import them from the various aftermarket parts' brands.

It's a bit like the old computer saying...garbage in, garbage out.

Using the number plate or even the VIN on one of these online aftermarket parts' websites is a recipe for disaster. The number of mistakes that these websites make is legendary.

I always search using the correct OEM part number. That's the most reliable way to find the correct aftermarket parts.

Even then, you need to be wary of aftermarket parts that are sold to replace more than one OEM part number as this could mean that the aftermarket part isn't an exact match to the OEM part number.

Caveat emptor, as they say in Latin.

That's why I wanted to find the right number for it, initially the 2 I had was 1k0615424P and 1Z0615424.

It happened to me before that a part arrived that was meant to fit my car but it didn't so I was trying to avoid the same mistake 😂

I too find using OEM numbers a reliable method, but the different specs quoted really confused (and annoyed) me here.

Glad I'm finally seeing the light 😂

And BTW, your research abilities are amazing 😉 thank you lots for help,

I will update the thread once the correct caliper is fitted

You might find it interesting to look again at the TRW BHN952 listing on autodoc. But this time change the car from Octavia MK2 2.0TDI 170HP RS to VW Golf MK5 2.0 petrol GTI 200HP. The below information comes up. Notice that this time the build code is shown as 1KY. The same build code is also shown when the car is changed to Seat Leon II 2.0 petrol CUPRA R 265HP. More importantly for these VW and Seat models, the OEM part numbers are also correct, which isn't the case for the Skoda.

I thought build code varies with every manufacturer?

I've been browsing caliper carriers and it's the same thing 😄😄

Looking to get a replacement for my trw- can't figure out which TRW fits my car.
