Wheel Nuts & Rear hubs

Featured Replies

Hoping someone can answer. I have noticed hat the wheel nuts on my Octavia have discoloured and gone sort of misty and my rear wheel hubs are going rusty. The car is a December 2019 so not yet 3 years old.

My question is are the wheel nuts covered with a plastic cap and can I remove them and replace with new ones and is it ok to clean off the hubs and paint with high temperature paint.

Thanks in advance for any help

yes, there should be plastic caps and yes you can paint the "hubs" (I'm assuming you mean the part of the brake disc that is visible through the wheel where the wheel attaches?)

Thanks for that, I had already worked out the plastic caps and have ordered anew set, all I need to do now is remove the wheels and clean and paint the brake disk assembly.

The plastic wheel nut caps are grey anyway and they all discolour through time. Maybe this is what you're describing as "misty" .

I deep cleaned my plastic covers and used a sealant on them so I'm hoping they keep their colour

Perhaps you need to roast your nuts 😁

Not suggesting this would work, but @Redditchboy maybe if you are careful you can apply a little heat to see if that can rejuvinate the old caps as you have ordered a new set.

An update, as I had some spare caps, I did try to apply some heat and no they don't shine up at all (wrong plastic) like the stadium seats do.
