Improving Sat Nav???

Featured Replies

The Sat Nav on my 2010 Superb Elegance doesn'r seem to be much use! I live in a rural area, so often visit islolated locations where there is no street name, just a post code. My old Tom Tom Go copes fine with this, and usually gets me where I need to be, but the Sat Nav in the car asks for the first 3 characters of the post code and then asks for a  street name, which isn't much use. To be honest I never use it, relaying on an ancient TT Go, but is there any way to upgrade it?

Also I can't find any way to have the Sat Nav instructions (voice) on without the media player, ie radio or CD, on, which I don't always want.  The volume/mute control seems to be common to both.

For a luxury (albeit Skoda) model this seems very odd. Is it me being dense?

Thanks

My facelift 63 plate car has full 7 digit postcode entry and did so from day 1 when delivered with V9 maps.  Pretty sure it's just a function of map version, recall reading that V7.1 first introduced this (and user POIs) when released early 2011 which would explain why your 2010 car doesn't have 7 digit postcode entry if still on original maps.  V17 is latest map, you may possibly need to update firmware as well to suit the newer larger maps

Sorry  forgot to say, this assumes you have Columbus sat nav.  This was standard for facelift elegance spec like mine but possible in 2010 you have lower spec Amundsen which I don't know if can offer 7 digit postcode entry even with newer maps.  If the sat nav has harddrive for storing music and maps then it's a Columbus.

Assuming that you have a Columbus unit, the postcode limitation is a function of the early firmwares (with a 2010 car, you are probably on a very early firmware 22xx version). I think anything from 3xxx up (certainly 42xxx onwards) introduced full postcode search and on-display clock (even when unit is turned off) as well as access to the "Hidden settings" menu. But you will also need to upgrade your maps to make full use of the postcode search. If you search on this site, you'll find lots of guides and info on upgrading firmware and maps. You can also find resources on guides by using Google. Alternatively, you can resort to eBay and just buy what you need: please note that it won't be original disks - they will be copies that someone has made. If you're okay with that, then that's the easiest way to go.

The volume for sat-nav and radio / media are actually seperate from each other, but it's not exactly obvious! The easiest way to adjust it is to wait until the sat nav is "speaking" to you and then adjust the volume at the same time as the sat-nav is "speaking". This will seperate the volume of the sat-nav from the radio / media. But if you want to adjust the volume of the sat-nav again, you have to wait until it's speaking to you again. You can "force" it to speak by pressing the "repeat last instruction" button or setting a new destinatin (for example), which makes it easier for fine-tuning the volume. I'm pretty sure you can also adjust the volumes within the "Settings" menu, but it probably buried a bit in submenus.
