Door Water Leak Advice

Featured Replies

My Octavia 2 Estate 05 has had a water leak from the front passenger door from new. The water drips from the bottom of the inside door liner/panel. The car has been back to the dealer twice and the leak is not cured and they have broken several of the plastic clips holding the trim to the door. The dealer told me they replaced the rubber door surround seal and the seal between the door and the metal panel riveted to the inside of the door. From the damage to the footwell trim and the trim around the top seat belt mounting trim I believe the door frame seal was changed but looking behind the inner door panel it appears they have just spread mastic around the outside of the seal.

Having read the guide by Lummox on replacing the seal on the rear door of a Fabia I wondered if anyone here had changed the seal on the front door of an Octavia 2 and whether there are any extra difficulties?

Although the car is under warranty I feel I can do a better job than my dealer, I can take more time and care! Alternatively if anyone has had a similar leak successfully repaired by a dealer in the South East please let me know the dealer.

Thanks

Took mine in 4 days after buying (Second Hand) from an approved Skoda center (Derek Slacks - North East). This was because after washing my car, I noticed that water had made its way into the doors. The sales guy who I described the problem to said its a common fault and would be EASILY and QUICKLY changed by a rubber seal. After taking my car in at 8am the car wasnt ready till 5:30 so possibly harder than he expected. Because I only had the car a couple of days they repaired as a goodwill gesture but normally would not be covered by the warrenty - this something I wanted to hear as if it went within the space of it being sat on a forecourt and drove for 4 days by me they I hate to imagine how often this part will fail.

Also just had a rough time at the dealer today due to another leak in the front left footwell. Still within warrenty but to find the fault they have to have a look @

If the MK2 is the same as the MK1 then the footwell leak could be a badly fitted pollen filter.

Just got it fixed today and it was a build up of leafs and other junk under the wiper bit in the rubber grommits that caused water to build up and consequently enter the vent ducts under the wipers. This is why the water gushed out when the blowers were on. Garage said easily fixed by cleaning out the grommits under the wipers. Advice from garage, dont park under trees for long periods of time. No charge due to waranty repair.

Hope this helps other people.

Mike

(Update - Damp almost gone now. And leak has not returned. Must say first class customer care from Derek Slack Motors at Middlesbrough!
