Body control module?

Featured Replies

2016 Skoda superb sel executive 36000 miles. Had it 2 years.

Bit of history.

During the last 2 holidays in Cornwall, 2021 dot matrix showed fault, boot not closed properly constant boing warning, turned out the clove box wasn’t closing properly. 2022 this year same thing but it was the interior light was still on, as we were only out during the day, didn’t notice it.

Problem on our way back. Symptoms.

Dot matrix shows red for boot not closed, but it is.

Dashboard lights on it lowest setting and cannot be set higher.

Nothing on dot matrix but boot not closed symbol, and won’t change to any other info or navigation.

No interior lights come on.

Heated seats don’t heat, but switch shows on.

Been to our garage where I always take our cars, been brilliant, lots of modern equipment and diagnostics, not a basic back street garage. But not a main dealer just a reliable independent.

They tried 4 different diagnostic readers Bosch etc, showed lots of fault codes, they thought and are pretty sure it’s a Body Control Module, but wanted to accurately check so they booked time online with Skoda but their equipment need a software upgrade as it wouldn’t or didn’t work so no nearer a identification as to exactly what was wrong, but still guessing a BCM .

Anyone help or know somewhere in Huddersfield West Yorkshire where I can take it to A find out what’s broken and then repair, I know it may be a grand for a BCM but I’d rather fixit as I love the car and nothing else is wrong with it and everything it serviced and up to date.

Forgot to say it’s a powered tailgate.

By any chance have you got led aftermarket tailgate bulbs?

if so, take them out! Then report back to us

Do you know why these LED’s cause the warning to initiate, AS?

It is a really odd one!

I can only speculate but this is my understanding. (I might be completely wrong)

To reduce heat output from these LEDs they dont use resistors to drop the voltage anymore, instead using switching power supplies. I assume the components used or the filtering is poor.

This means the electronic interference from this constant switching heads back to the BCM and im assuming there is no input filtering to these outputs (as they werent designed to function that way) and in turn this causes the BCM to throw a tantrum.

Like i said, i could be 100% wrong but this is my theory on the issues.

Now why when tailgate LED lights are fitted and the glovebox is opened does it act the exact same (i dont think the glovebox turns on the tailgate lights), that is a mystery i have 0 ideas on.... maybe there is constant current monitoring flowing a very small voltage and that means its still 'active'?

And also why when one switch off “stop/start”, it no longer chucks-up the warning?

I never tried that one, now i really have no idea!

Update.

it was a faulty battery from euro parts and a body control module, so exchanged battery for a Original equipment battery, more expensive obviously, a new tailgate switch and a body control module at £468, now all working as it should.

Hi i have same issue as you.

Where did you purchase BCM / or who fitted new one? Skoda or any independent garage? Thanks
