Figuring out which gearbox my car has.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, bit of a longshot but I'm trying to figure out which gearbox the vrs I've bought has fitted to it. As I understand it there were a few different ratios of boxes fitted to these cars through the years.

The sticker in the boot is pretty rough and I can't make out the code for the gearbox unfortunately.

I can't find the little service booklet that has a copy of this sticker either.

This was first registered August 2004 if that's any addition.

I'm guessing the gearbox code will be stamped on the gearbox somewhere, does anyone have any ideas where that code might be on the gearbox?

Thanks.

Would it be possible to ascertain the gearbox number from the VIN in the right hands?

You should see the code on the tag, but could be worn away by now 4EA922FD-459F-4A6D-883E-C62F96278DA5.jpeg.85a4822ed8f74af8231c1ddbc89b4c88.jpeg

100% if nothing was swapped since leaving factory.

The long ratio box will do about 110mph in 4th at 4K rpm. The shorter box does around 90 if I remember right.
