Crazy white noise that won't go off!

Featured Replies

Turned on this afternoon and for the last 4.5hrs very loud white noise has been coming out of the speakers. Sound settings can't be accessed.

Have tried power cycling the info system

Factory reset

Car shut off and back on again.

it's still going.

Any ideas?!

There was an update that came through the other day....any way to roll those back?

I have had numerous of speaker misbehaving's. Sorted itself out after leaving the car turned off for 30 mins. I don't recall the exact time but the car goes to deep sleep (or what ever is the term) after 24 mins.

So just turning off and on with out that time limit, the software doesn't really restart.

Thanks for the reply.

This is next level though. It's been going since 5pm yesterday, it is now 8:42am!

Car has been off since 6pm.

I have had several other intermittent issues with the infotainment system (such as loss of all sound) that do not recover on a normal reset but do recover if I stop and leave the car for a while before setting off again.

I wish they made a switch to invoke the full restart at will - preferably while driving.

I have that same issue, been trying to find somewhere if there is a definitive fix or should I just ignore it since it rarely happens. I feels like there is some power relay that doesn't always connect and the car needs to go into full standby for it to reset and try again. But then I know the dealership can't do anything about it unless there is an actual solution that comes down all the way from Skoda.

Do you (all) have Canton?

I do.

That's what i thought.

Came across this issue on different forum i guess. It seems to be affecting only cars with Canton. Never heard if it in a car without Canton.

My guess is some software glitch in Canton amplifier.

You can try to locate fuse for amplifier, and if issues happens again just try to reset it by removing the fuse.

It fixes itself if you turn off the car and lock the doors for a bit so there is no rush, it's just annoying and could get worse.

But this way you could actually test if it's in fact amplifier and give hint to dealership when reporting it :)

I actually refuse to believe they don't know this issue exists already. The REAL issue is that they don't want to spend money making changes. Because it's so minor I think it's pushed to the very end of the queue, likely never going to be fixed since Canton option doesn't even exist anymore.

It is more of a problem if you are in the middle of a long drive, e.g. on a morning commute on the freeway, or on a long interstate highway trip, or in inclement weather, where there is no opportunity to pull over and get out of the car.

Also I have never determined how long "a bit" is. One second? One minute? 10 minutes etc.

I wish they made a button called "Full Reset" that you could press while driving.

It would do more than the reset that occurs when you hold down the power button for 10 seconds.

It would do whatever occurs to the infotainment system some time after locking the doors.

Skoda knows it exists, but some dealerships might not know that. Maybe they will try to replace the amp? Maybe new ones have this issue fixed? Or maybe they will try firmware upgrade, which otherwise they would not?

Worth a shot, of course granted this is not the only thing one would visit dealership for. But maybe combined with regular service or something?

This resets only infotaiment/head unit, but not the amplifier.

Mine usually does it right on startup, so I just get out lock it, walk away for a couple minutes and it's back, I do that if it's a going to be a long drive. I think it happened to me like 15 times total in a year of driving.

I am going in for the yearly service on the 19th I will ask, but my hopes are extremely low. However I am 95% satisfied with the car if it stays the way it is for the next 4-7 years. This is the only real issue and it's annoying, but not a deal breaker.

This is what happened to me and it was fixed by removing the car battery for 10 minutes
  • 2 weeks later...

Had my VRS in for its 30K service last week and this was one of the issues I mentioned when book it in.

Its happened three times in the the 18 months I've had it. VERY strange. Sometimes almost sounds musical in an electronic / industrial sort of way.

On picking up the car the service rep went through the issues I'd raised and said the white noise was a known problem and should now be resolved after a software update.

Fingers crossed it is...

Yeah, software updates aren't coming in as often as they promised they would. That being said I have owned things that didn't work nearly as well as this car and never got fixed, so it's still ok.

I've had the no sound issue (Canton) a few times, usually the old IT adage of turning it off and on again has usually. resolved but the first time it happened it didn't and seemed to drain my battery as the next day it was dead to the point where the central locking wouldn't even work. Can't recall off-hand if it's happened since the last software update though.
