Egr delete/Elephant mod

Featured Replies

Going to remove my egr valve for cleaning this weekend and wondered if its worth doing the above mods?

Car is a 2004 Vrs with the ASZ engine.

Just more interested in keeping the engine clean really.

Seems to be as easy as putting a bolt or similar in the egr vac line to disable it but am not sure if this will trigger the cel.

Not on an ASZ it won't.

After doing some reading it seems it would be better to blank the egr feed pipe at the manifold end as some have reported problems with overheating of the pipe with no egr flow.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

Just what I read on here really, I can't see it being the case personally.

I'd guess that it came to be as a theory like this:

One or two people fitted blanking plates at the top end of the pipe, because it's easier than bottom end or both. In doing so, they moved about the flexi section of the poor old pipe beyond its aged range of movement and without noticing cracked it. They then developed an exhaust leak as the crack widened.

Try the vac pipe, see how it goes. I can't see blanking plate(s) having any advantage over a closed valve.
