Oil on the dipstick

Featured Replies

Hi, I just got myself a 2002 skoda octavia 1.8t 4x4, I know this is a silly question but, when I check the dipstick I see groves at the bottom, and I also see some orange plastic markers. I was wondering if the oil should come up to the bottom groves or the upper markers?

The grooves are the oil level markers; the orange plastic is the handle and to hold the stick central in the tube.

1.0l from the bottom "refill now" marker (when the top up now yellow oil light comes on) to the top "oil full" one.

Hi, welcome.  Have a read of the Owners Manual as it gives this sort of information and a lot more that you need or are best to know about your car to save you time, hassle and money and unnecessary garage visits and repairs.  If you do not have the paper printed version you can download a pdf version from the following link. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

Know where the level is cold without the engine started.

Top up to Area A when the Engine Oil is at Normal Operating temp. So that is when up above 80*oC, so near to an indicated 90*oC.

Do not overfill..   Know where that correct level is when cold so you can check before trips.
