Dab and gps sharkfin replacement.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently installed a android hu from atd and fitted a windscreen dab aerial. Annoyingly and as seems to a common theme on here the signal is rubbish at best. The aerial itself is installed correctly but I get the impression a GPS and dab sharkfin would  get far better results.

I'd like to try and retain the oem look and use of the current cables. I know I'd need to run another wire from the roof to the hu, but I'm hoping the wealth of knowledge on here can help me source a oem look sharkfin if such a thing exists?

I know there are some members on here who supply these sorts of things.

Also, a search did show me results but most if not all seem quite old.

Thank you in advance.

You can get an aerial / Fakra adapter to connect from your Android HU's ISO or DIN aerial connector to the Fakra connector at the end of the coaxial DAB lead from the shark fin aerial.

Ensure you get the 'amplified' version with the blue wire and connect that to the blue wire coming out of your Android HU.

Many forget that amplification is needed, which is why the signal can be poor.

You will need to connect the blue wire from the Fakra adapter to the blue wire coming out of the Android HU as this will amplify the signal from the shark fin's coaxial DAB lead.

Just been through this exercise myself on my Superb Mk2, with an aftermarket Pioneer DAB unit. Also managed to find the infotainment adapter which allows vehicle info such as optical parking diagram and blower speed to appear on the the new HU screen.

Can recommend Mem at Dynamic Sounds, who was very helpful and advised on the correct adapters for my car:  https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk

Great info, thank you mate. I'll first investigate my current shark fin to see if there is a spare adaptor for dab input.

If so that will save me a good few quid. I'll be sure to contact Dynamic Sounds once confirmed!

Again, thank you!
