Window regulator repair kit

Featured Replies

Can someone recommend a current supplier for a window regulator repair kit (electric, drivers side front)? One of the white plastic cable holders snapped, allowing one end of the cable to come loose. These are the small white plastic parts that attach the cable to the metal window clamps (the clamps that hold the window glass).   Eurocarparts sells only the complete carrier panel for £40. OK so this wouldn't break the bank,  but if I don't try and spend as little money as possible it defeats the point of attempting a DIY repair.  There are various ebay sellers who still appear to stock the minimal repair kits that consist of cables and associated white plastic parts only - this appears to be the type of repair kit required in my case. As usual it is difficult to know which random ebay seller to trust who won't send me one made of string and cardboard, so I'm just looking for some recommendations (from ebay, or anyhere else) before praying to the Gods and picking a random one.

I've used the random ones from ebay with good results, you're perfectly safe choosing the cheapest kit that will fix your problem but be aware that you'll need to lay the regulator on a table or workbench to do the repair.

The hardest part is getting the regulator off the door, not the fixing of it and putting it all back together properly is also tricky.

I bought a new carrier off eBay. Has it for years with no issue. Only thing I found was the metal was thinner so vibrated. Easily fixed with some sound deadening.

This help?!

Mainly I am wary of buying a subpar knockoff that breaks prematurely thus needing even more  time to do the job twice (or more!), but it is what it is. Any recommendation on re-assembling using bolts (with thread lock) instead of rivets to fit the carrier to the door panel? Good advice about sound deadening but hopefully I won't have this issue as re-using the original carrier.

Generally when the plastic clip snaps the loose cable snarls up in the motor spool.

Exactly this is the part that broke but the cable got mangled. So I probably need to buy one of the setsthat include the above, cables, and central pulley mechanism.

I bought a door regulator fitted to the steel door inner and transferred the motor , mine was pop riveted to the door so had to buy large rivets and a larger rivet gun.

£32 for the regulator, mine had the cable broken and so screwed up I decided that was my best diy option.

Can't say if it rattles whilst driving as car sorned.

I've used the clips and bought a replacement mechanism. Main reason for "upgrading" from £2.99 to £12.99 (ish) was that unless you've already stripped the door carrier off, you don't know if there are any other broken bits. Haven't bothered with replacement carriers as I have non-standard speakers fitted and I don't want to faff around with that any more than I have to.

Also used 6mm or 8mm butyl mastic rope rather than foam seal strips to seal the carrier back on. Can be found on eBay.
