MK1 Octavia vrs gearbox query

Featured Replies

I have a leak on my gearbox and it looks like it's coming from the plate on the bottom that's embossed with the be logo. I removed the 2 bolts but the plate won't budge. I didn't want to force it. Can someone confirm if the plate is removable?

It's been a while since I've had an O2J box in bits, but from memory, I think that is the bottom support plate for the gear selector shaft. I'm not sure you can remove that without the spool dropping if it is the plate I think it is.

Thanks for the reply 👍🏼

I tried looking at a parts diagram I can't find one showing that plate/cover as a separate part.

Yes, you can remove this plate, mine was leaking from there too. It slots onto the bottom of the gear selector shaft. Undo the two bolts, give it a wiggle and pull it off. Then give everything a good clean with brake / clutch cleaner then apply your favorite sealant on the mating surfaces and pop it back on.

Thanks Mike. Do I need to drain the gearbox oil before pulling the plate off?
