Are Skoda advertised servicing prices inclusive of VAT and why are some approved dealerships trying to charge more?

OK, after spending half an hour chatting to Skoda UK via the Livechat - they are unable to confirm whether their advertised fixed price servicing costs are inclusive or exclusive of VAT. This seemed a simple question to me.

 

So my first question: Is the fixed service oil and filter cost £185 inc VAT or ex VAT?

Looking at https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price it states the following in the small print:

 

Quote

All prices are (where applicable) inclusive of standard parts, labour, oil and VAT

 

So yes, they should include VAT and I'd expect a "Oil and inspection service" to cost £185 inc VAT.

The prices are supposed to be fixed (although dealer can reduce them), never more.

 

If you book online, they can’t charge more than advertised price (or if they try to, then simply tell them that’s all you are paying as that was the quote)

 

 

Actually the prices are not supposed to be fixed.  They are fixed at Participating Dealers, and not all are participating.

 

Then there is the Fix Service Regime thing.  and 3-10 year old car. Which is a nonesense.

 

There is the Oil & Inspection Service, 1st year, 2nd year, year 3 that and Extended Scope.  Then the stuff extra you pay for.

 

The 2021 prices quoted are one thing,

now it is POA / Price on application in lots of cases.  

 

So ask what they are doing, ask what extras cost, and hold them to that.  If the person on the phone dithers ask them to go get someone that knows.

Hi thanks to everyone for their responses.

Despite reading the Ts and Cs several times had missed the VAT part.
I tried to use the LiveChat with Skoda UK but after 30 mins they said they weren't allowed to answer my question as they were not registered to give financial advice ( WTF! ).

The reason I am asking is that my local Skoda dealership advertises the Skoda fixed prices. As soon as I try to book online and enter my registration/mileage the cheapest service they offer is £200+ for a 1 year/10K mile service much more for a 2 year/20K mile service.

My March 2017 Superb TDi 150 manual car is on variable servicing and has two previous services done under the service plan.
It is now on 54k miles and is due its third service.

Should I be able to get an oil service change for variable servicing for £185?

I'm not fussed about the extended scope stuff ( still can't understand if they actually do anything for an extra £60 ), and similarly can swap the pollen filter myself.

The car is also due a new timing belt ( and waterpump ) but they are quoting prices from £775 - which seems expensive to me.

Anyone had any similar work done recently?

@AndrewS7889   Maybe @ApertureSwill see this now and be able to shed some light on what Main Dealers are now charging to do the timing belt and waterpump compared to what he does it for.

 

Then the idea might be to find out what a good independent VW Specialist in your area wants to charge for the job. 

Maybe someplace that Taxi Drivers in your area uses.   If there are those about with VW Group diesels maybe ask them were they go.

Main dealers currently charge this for timing belt and water pump replacement on the 1.6 and 2.0 TDI engines - prices vary but this is Skoda's 'fixed' price.

Cambelt Replacement £571.44

Cambelt Replacement with Water Pump £874.97
 
I charge £400 for a timing belt replacement with new coolant and a water pump.

Thanks for the further replies - much appreciated.

 

To update I ended up getting a different dealership to quote for the service.

Managed to get an Oil and Inspection service for variable servicing, with pollen filter and brake fluid change for £245 all in.

However they quoted £967.84 for the cambelt and waterpump and confirmed it is 4.5hrs labour.

I've contacted my local VW specialist and they quoted 4 hours and a total of £479 so much more reasonable.

I've had the service/inspection/brake fluid done.

 

Looks like I'll be using my local VW specialist for the cambelt.

Sorry just seen this.

 

I received a circular from my local dealer regarding the £185 service ( inc vat !! ) but when I went to book online they were asking something like £210. I then checked all the other dealers in my catchment area and every single one of them had a different online booking price to what they were advertising on their website.  It just seems like another typical VW Group communication problem - they don't know their ar5e from their elbow.

 

Simple solution - book via the local dealership service desk and tell them you want the £185 service. Then cross your fingers and hope you're speaking to somebody that knows what they're talking about.

If you have a 1 or 2 year old Skoda so under 3 years old & on Fixed or Variable servicing then maybe ignore the Skoda Fixed Price Servicing & Maintenance prices given for cars 3-10 years old at Participating dealers.

 

Get the deal you can on your under 3 year old car from what ever Dealership / Authorised repairer.
