Media/USB keeps resetting

Featured Replies

I have copied a load of my own music onto a memory stick and stuck into the usb port in my 2019 Scala TSI DSG, as I get annoyed hearing adverts on the radio.

What I find is that the frequently, the order of playing the tracks will go back the first one.  I queried this with the dealer recently and was told this is normal.

I can't accept that as "normal" as it is most annoying to keep going back to the first track.

Anyone out there have a similar issue?

Whenever an SD Card or USB is ejected, the music will be back to the beginning, but could be a software bug.

This could be a firmware issue (welcome to post that so I can check)

Cheers varooom for the quick reply.

I leave the usb stick in the car/usb port, which is why I don't understand why it resets itself.  I have a Ford Focus as well, and this works perfectly, it even remembers which track I was playing if I remove it from the Focus.

It's not supposed to forget each time, but I don't have your radio technology.

Find out your software train and I can tell you if update exists.  Dealers cannot always be bothered to lookup the TPI documents (fault list) Technical Product Information.

Software train?

It looks like I'm as up to date as I can be.

However, I'd like to know why the media side still does what it does.

And I do note that the maps are not current.  I've tried to ask Skoda via faceache, but the posts got deleted.

Also, on a number of occasions, I have had a message telling me the profile is loading, and it just stays on the screen for ages.  I've spoken with the dealer, but they couldn't look at the car for about 10 days.  I'm not impressed they could not spare a few minutes.

Have you posted your software train value?

The maps you can download yourself usually, but they take a few hours to load in the background, no button to make it just happen.

It transpires that the heating control system was interfering with the infotainment system.  All replaced.

And you'd think I'm happy.

Nope, cos it's happening again.  Phone calls going silent from me, I can hear the other person, the sat nav trying to send me via fields, and not recognising where I am.  USB tracks get reset to the first one.  The infotainment display freezing.

So, back to Skoda I go.

Did you ever find out what Software Train you have in the radio now.

I keep asking as I can say if update exists, and then you can know if the garage is saying "no" and lying/getting it wrong.

You won't break it by looking 🤝

Jeez man, I can't remember.

I'll have to go and have another look.

And this is what I found -

0156 is the latest for your 01xx series hardware.  It's probably a hardware fault that they won't like admitting to, they/you could try to load firmware again, but I am doubtful it will fix things.

There are 02xx and 03xx versions for the newer hardware.

Interfering with, hope it got put on a register!  No in all seriousness did the dealer elaborate, was the heating control unit faulty and therefore supposedly causing the infotainment system glitches?

They suggested the heating control may have been faulty.

And guess what?  The car is going back in again as it has been reoccurring for the last few weeks.

Unwittingly they have emailed me to offer to buy the car off me. I might just take them to on it as the issue, albeit, not stopping the car running, is getting very frustrating when I can't show the heating fan down, I can't speak to someone on the phone but can hear them, the sat nav tells me I'm in a field when even I can't tell I'm in the outside lane of the M1, the usb media Lewis's resetting itself.  Need I go on.  The dash went totally blank momentarily on the way to London the other weekend.

But I really like the car which is really annoying.

Watch this space.

I share your annoyance mine arrived and all was well it seemed but following a software update well maybe or maybe just coincidence but then the mayhem of the infotainment often glitching/crashing, failing to respond, user profile issues, settings seeming to be lost, heating controls menu button doing nothing and the auto mode of the climate control not working then working but taking a disproportionate amount of time to warm the car have all taken the shine off of my first new car, it will have to go in under warranty for investigations.  I'm like you I do like a lot of things about the car but I confess I did have a look at the resale value the other day.

I feel your pain. I'm thinking of jumping somewhere else next time.

An update on this.

I've had the car back into the deal several times and they have updated the software.

From a conversation with a contact I have, it also transpires if I have a memory stick such as I have with my music on it, the car thinks it is trying to boot up from that.  I've removed this from the car but have yet to drive it as my beloved pinches it.  Hopefully this might identify the issue.  It's a shame Skoda haven't mentioned this as they could see the memory stick in the car.  I even mentioned it as this is what started the situation as it was resetting the order EVERYTIME I got into the car.

Watch this space, as they say.
