Banging sound from rear, like boot is open

Featured Replies

Hi people, recently picked up my mk3 vrs, I've noticed a very deep, almost bassy type banging from the rear inside the cabin, almost like my boot isn't shut properly.

Has anyone had similar?

Check the spare wheel's fastened down then my next suspect would be exhaust.

We had an odd sound from the boot / tailgate area of the sons focus, after lots of trim off etc I traced it to the number plate rattling against the tailgate (crappy adhesive pads), renewed with quality items sorted

Could make sense, but it's more of a deep sound, similar to the sound it makes in the cabin when a door is slammed in the car, that sort of thump sound

Simple stuff first 👍

What's the level of fuel in the tank, some owners have reported that when around 3/4 full they hear fuel banging around in the tank.

Have you considered letting the person in the boot out? :D

Does it happen when the rear windows are rolled down?

Update, not the spare wheel, as I don't have one 😅

They can stay in there, either annoying me by speaking or spending my money😅

Windows, honestly not tried, due to the crazy wet weather we've had in the UK the past week, but I'll give this a go and report back!

Try adjusting the boot "stops".

Earlier versions had a very long thread on Briskoda re noise:-

Going to give this a go tomorrow, I have some underlay and those rubber strips to hand actually 😅
