Car hesitant to start

Morning team,

 

Just back into a skoda and its ever so slightly hesitant to start, is this common? 2.0 TDI engine, its very minor but noticeable just to statisfy my curiosity, cheers

 

mine is certainly slower to start than my old MK4 Golf GT TDI.  I always make sure the glowplug light is out too

What age is the car, how many miles done, is it the original battery?

All kind of relevant because really when new the cars are not hesitant to start or that would have been an issue people commented on.

36k battery has been tested 2015, yes i understand ppl may comment but i may be being overly critical, i mean it starts 🤷

If you have a multimeter, the best way to check is in the morning before you start, also can you take picture of the battery iteself (or tell us the type/rating)

 

I replaced my 2015 battery as it was nearing the end of it's life, showing almost 12V when left for a day (it should be higher)

I was getting a few lazy starts on a 1.6ltr engine, not massively so, but you could tell it was thinking about it more.

^^^ this, plus, if you have someone to assist, keep the meter leads on the battery terminals while assistant cranks the engine. This will give a good indication of battery condition.

I have a battery tester, ill chuck that on it when i get home and say what it says 👍🏻

Especially the start-drop test if your tester has that function. 

Hi! What values should a start drop test should have? And voltage after a day of sitting ? My car have the original battery, or I think it does. I want to test it 2016 reg

For a 12-volt system, using a voltmeter, battery voltage should be around 10 volts DC when engine is cranking - voltage should not drop below 9 volts. This is for a fully charged battery. Voltage should recover to more than 12 volts immediately engine stops cranking.

Depending on type, a battery test meter will often give pass, charge battery or replace rating, with possibly a percentage reading.

For a healthy battery, voltage should be not less than12 volts (12.2 VDC or greater) after battery has been sitting for a day.

Any update on this? I don't think my 2015 battery is acting up but I'm wondering is it making my cold start cranking issue worse, despite being there since 2016.

There is no "update on this"

 

You yourself will need to get out a multimeter and check Voltage after it's sat overnight and post up your findings.

 

I replaced my 2015 original AGM battery as it was starting to get "lazy" but I never left it until it fully died, as I didn't want to be stranded.  I could have gotten another 2-4 years out if it, the lifespan varies depending on too many factors to list...

 

If you don't have a multimeter, you could try a garage that has a drop tester or somewhere than can print out the CCA rating of the battery now.
