Skoda octavia vrs 245 remap

Featured Replies

Good evening sportsfans

I have a 2019 octavia vrs 245 estate, ive had it 3 years and just ticked over 20k miles, my local tuning garage to me is r-tech performance, and they've said they'll take my engine power to 310, I have a manual gearbox, has anyone else done this to their car and if so does the standard clutch have any issues.

Thanks

I think the general consensus is to budget for a new clutch, in the next year or so.

Have they considered your car will be a gpf model?

Most of the pre gpf did seem to map to 300+bhp. .

But most of the gpf specific maps I've seen pull under 300bhp.

I think when gpf was fitted the injectors were also changed so might be why they make slightly less power.

R Tech are excellent mappers. I would not worry about a few bhp less as that will not translate to any different on the road performance. Really only for pub bragging to say mine has over 300bhp etc. R Tech will do you an excellent custom map and advise you of what you need to know.

Hijacking this thread to avoid starting another.

My 67 plate 50k miles is now out of warranty (Skoda extended) so looking to get a remap. It's a 245 special (heated seats etc.) so doesn't have the GPF as far as I can tell/see.

Anyone have any recommendations for where to go for the remap in central belt Scotland?

@TazdazHas your VAQ diff been service at least once, maybe twice?

Thanks, I'll take a look. VAQ was serviced August last year. Had to ask for it to be done though as it wasn't showing as required by Skoda dealer maintenance list.

Is it worth replacing coil plugs before a remap on a 245? Or just wait and see if any probs afterwards? 67 plate 50k miles.

Have the spark plugs been replaced already?

Service the car before remapping.  Be sure the spark plugs are perfect and the person doing the remap should advise on which plugs to fit.

The likes of fitting a new air filter is just basic stuff to do, or at least check the air filter is clean, and if fitting a non standard set up do it before remapping.

Do you mean coil packs? Or spark plugs?

Either way the standard versions of both will be fine at stage 1

I had mine mapped in December, ran 244bhp standard and now has 310bhp ( does have a non standard intake fitted though and is a gpf model)

Yeh I meant coil packs, not sure why I wrote plugs as I'd been looking at coil packs on parts sites seconds before posting! Spark plugs have been done within the last year.

Place I'm getting it remapped said it should be using latest rev of coil packs, but thinking I'll just wait and see if there's a problem!

@Tazdaz can you say who is doing the remap?   If you are using trusted professionals then their advice is likely more important than the likes of mine or others that you do not even know or have ever met.

DH Automotive/Performance. Was recommended to them and handy as right near the house.

Was more curious if Stage 1 usually causes issues with coil packs.

A remap should not cause issues with ignition coils if they are all good.   A stage 1 remap should not, and nether should the spark plugs.   But since you are looking for a performance increase then using Super Unleaded and upgrading Spark plugs and coils can just be a sensible thing to do. And pre remap and see how the car is on a Dyno pre remap.   This can be money well spent when it is performance you want and that you are going to use.   After all if anything goes wrong it is you paying to fix things.

They have said they will do a health check before it's put onto the Dyno as won't touch a car that has an issues.

Spark plugs are OEM as Skoda were servicing it up until now and were replaced last summer. Air filter will replace this afternoon as 30 second job. Oil is 4k miles old. Ideally I would fully service it before going in Tuesday but away at wedding this weekend. Asked to fill it with Tesco Momentum 99 which is what I use anyway.

Just realised I missed your reply last night, wasn't ignoring you!

Their reviews read well.

I had never heard of them but will be interested in how it all goes.  Have fun.

Who's software are they installing?

Seems they provide racingline oem+, apr and I know they are the northern "division" of Mrc tuning . . Who tune alot of BIG power audi RS cars down south.

Which ever one it is they are all very reputable. .

Going for OEM+. I'll let you know how it goes next week.

Picked it up this evening. Seems to pull well, better than expected actually.

Stock measured 240bhp, 359Nm.

Remapped measured 304bhp, 442Nm.

OEM clutch with 50k miles on it and no signs of slipping (yet) so happy if it lasts a few months more. I don't really launch off the line anyway so might be fine for longer.

Fuel economy no comment as I was giving it some beans as a test!
