I stupidity jump started battery backwards....

Featured Replies

Accidentally connected battery backwards when jump starting for a split second in the dark, (so stupid i know)... I immediately removed the cable with my reaction from the spark.

I am now getting Getting codes:

16705 engine speed sensor P0321 - implausible signal

01314 Engine control module 013 check DTC memory

01317 Control module in Instrument Cluster

When the codes are cleared the car starts and drives fine, only when u go into high boost at 3000rpm it will suddenly go into limp mode again with the same codes popping up. Any idea what to do about this?

The various ECU'S should have diode protection from reverse polarity but you should also check all the fuses as some of them may have popped too.

There are only two fuse locations am i right? One in the dash beside the driver dashboard and then 5 or 6 on the battery itself.

Yes, go through them all one by one.

Just checked every one of them no problems at all. I've definitely done something to the ECU and cluster 🤦‍♂️

It seems so, I would ignore the speed sensor fault for now and consider buying a matched ECU and cluster from a scrap car.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnecting?

No i haven't, the car was sitting up for about 4 weeks and the battery is very poor. So these problems might not even be related to me accidentally putting the jump leads on. However when i clear the codes it seems that the car will drive absolutely fine for as long as it likes as long as i don't go into high boost high rpm. The car then suddenly jumps into limp mode... I will try disconnecting the battery putting in  a new battery and clearing the codes next.

I would check the engine speed sensor connections, and investigate the cost of a replacement sensor.

I wouldn't bother yet, the sensor is a symptom, not the cause of these problems.

You can get that fault code from just cranking the car if it doesn't start.
