Quick headlight question

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Picked up my 53 Black Magic Octy 1 vRS last week, and am loving it.

I have just bought some philips blue vision headlights and was wondering if changing the bulbs is an easy job for a novice. Got my haynes manual coming this week, but would like to get them changed over tomorrow :)

Dont know if I'm allowed to mention companies names or not, but I can remove if I can't. Its just that I thought I'd let you know Powerbulbs.co.uk atm are giving free blue vision sidelights with any pair of main headlights bought.

Anyone else got these bulbs in?

Anyway thanks guys and gals

Rob

Very simple job to change headlight bulbs although it does mean you have to remove the whole light assembly to do it!.

First unscrew cap (A) and then pull lever (B) in the direction of the arrow, it will need a bit of a tug but it pulls the light toward you. The two red arrows point to the adjusment screws for headlights. Next remove the wiring plug at the rear by squeezing the clip. You should now have the entire assembly removed from the vehicle!.

Unclip rear bulb housing and now it's a very simple task of swapping the bulbs.

A Word of Caution! : The sidelights are a pig of a job and will almost certainly require two of you to do it and some very narrow pointed pliers. Not easy to get to! :thumbdwn:

I have some Bluevision bulbs in mine - they are a substantial improvement over the original bulbs

Fitting them is a bit of a pig but you can do it without removing the light assembly provided you are bloody minded enough ;)

Deleted previous post as I gave you false information as that was for the MkII Octy, sorry bout that :o

i changed the bulbs in my octavia with very little problem. only really a problem when you have xenons i believe.

i think powerbulbs.co.uk are always giving free side lights with main lights ;)

Thanks guys, will give it a go later today if I have time.

I'm sure I'll work it out!?

No worries about the mix up makefish, thought the pic looked slightly different to mine!

Cheers, Rob

flip the metal clip to the side that holds the black plastic cover on the back of the light. take the cover off.

squeeze the clips on the sides of the side light connector and pull it out, swap the bulbs over.

unplug the connctor on the back of the main bulb then unclip the spring clip. carefully take the old bulb out and install the new one. refit the connector and jobs done.

the drivers side is alittle tighter because of the throttle body hose being close to the back cover but all bulbs can be changed in 5 minutes or less.

i did have the Osram Silver Stars, they were good but i changed them to Philips Blue Vision bulbs last week (got the new ones from Powerbulbs) and they are awesome. very bright white light with a nice span.
