Hello from new member + wiper problem

Featured Replies

Hi  new member here.
I have a 2012 Octavia Vrs with Dsg box.  We bought the car in 2012 with 6k on the clock.   Now covered just over 106k and we’ve loved the car and still do.  It’s been superb.  Only a few niggles over the years and the latest is the rear wiper has packed in.  I understand this is not an uncommon problem.  I’ve checked the usual body to tailgate wiring and they’re all good.   I’ll pull the motor off tomorrow and give it a good looking at any other clues would be appreciated.

I’m sorry I thought this was a space to say hello and introduce oneself

Sure is, just I mean if someone replies to help you with the car issue you mentioned here is all.

It's not a problem to mention your fault at all.

Topic moved. 👍

Likely that's it if it's not the wiring; the wiper spindle isn't totally waterproof, and sometimes it leaks into the motor.

Hi, Louise!

Mine is 2011 Octavia 2 1.6 MPi. My rear wiper stopped to work almost immediately I bought the car. Sometimes worked a little but stopped then in the middle of the window. I was about to buy a new wiper motor but I took a closer look at it before that. I took the motor cover off and realised that there is a small circuit board or connecting point where the motor wires are soldered. The soldering had cracks and after resoldering wiper has been working now about two years.  I think repeated impacts when closing the rear bonnet are resulting the cracks.

So if you or your friend have such of skills and interest to do I recommend to check that before buying a new one.

Another opinion: the cheapest aftermarket motor costs a little bit under 60 euros so it's your choice.

Hope you find a solution to your problem!

Cheers

Hi Pasi.  Many thanks for your advice on this.  I haven’t looked at it yet as it’s been sodding too cold to go messing about with cars.   I will do as you suggest and give the PCB in the motor a good inspection under a magnifying glass. I do have the skills to resolder if it needed.
thanks again

Hello Louise!

Cold here also, -6 degrees celsius so not so interested to go out to do any car repairs :)

Sorry I don't have any photographs to show details. The biggest problem indeed was taking the hard plastic cover off in the inside of rear bonnet, it required a little bit force. The rest of work is then quite well observed.

Good luck!

Hi Guys.  Sorry for the delayed update.  I removed the motor and it turned it was indeed foobarred.  Got a new one off Fleabay and it works a treat.  It’s nice to have a working rear wiper again.  Thanks for all the help.
