Skoda Fabia 1.0 TSI Colour Edition Wheels and tyres

Featured Replies

I have just bought my wife a Skoda Fabia 1.0 TSI Colour Edition 2018 and am wondering about the wheels and tyres that I should buy for winter.
The car has 215/45/16 tyres and looking online this appears to be an unusual size.
If I buy wheels ant tyres from an online source e.g. Rimstyle I have to order a "Not recommended tyre size"
It's a blue and white edition with white alloys (I know it is a pig to keep lean) and want to keep it looking somewhat OEM but don't want to spend a fortune.

I don't want to get the wrong thing, any advice appreciated.

"Not recommended tyre size"

The recommended size for your car are on the inside of your fuel filler cap.

You might find that 185 60 15 is one of the tyre sizes.

If so 185 60 15 tyres on a 6 x 15 wheel might be a more popular size.

Thanks. AG Falco

Here's a couple of standard 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 alloy rims for the Fabia MK3. These rims are normally fitted with 185/60R15 tyres when used on the Fabia MK3.

185/60R15 is a more common, more comfortable, more mpg, and cheaper tyre size than 215/45R16.

In addition to the standard 185/60R15 tyre size, you might also want to consider the very similar sized 195/60R15 which can be even better value.

If they would fit my choice for comfort and our third-world roads (thank you wealthy bankers pensions) would be 14" wheels, as well as potholes there's kerbing, but I don't know how popular the 14" tyres sizes are, which give choice and value.

Even with the 15" tyres (185/60 r15 on my wife's car) you need careful selection if you want good comfort, noise and handling, running at eco setting of 35 psi definitely reduces the rolling resistance so presumably helps with mpg but it also makes things a crashy and reduces comfort, noise and handling, we stick to the 30 psi now on more comfortable tyres but we won't see great mileage out of them but I'm used to that.

I won't give you a thank you for 16" wheels as I'm not into fashion or filling the wheel arches I prefer the extra room for suspension travel, mud and snow (fortunately I've always been able to use "summer" tyres all year round).

14" might not work, okay if the car has 256mm front discs, but not so handy if the car has 288mm front discs, I'd expect the lower powered 1.0TSI will have the smaller brake size and the higher powered 1.0TSI the bigger disc size.

I just bought a used set of 4 15" VW Polo 6R alloys for my wife's 2015 6C VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS and put on a set of 185/60 X 15 winter tyres.

The one error that I made was, I bought Michelin Alpins, great winter tyres, but they are lasting too long for the winter mileage we cover, next time I'd aim to buy a cheaper less well wearing set as long as the grip performance was just as good!

I use a second set of wheels on my car and the tyres are getting on a bit since I bought them, especially since I have been working from home and not doing a 50 mile commute. I usually have the winter wheels on for 6 months though. We don't tend to go for premium makes but try to get ones with good reviews. My wife's previous car had Nokian (Scandinavian brand, great if on offer) all weather tyres on when we bought it which she continued to use and replace with more economical all weather Maxis ones. Whereas I have been using winter Nexen Winguard.
My wife even took my car out one evening as she felt unsafe (recent accident) without all season/winter tyres on the Fabia even though it has good tread on the summer tyres.

According to Jurid on autodoc, 256mm front discs were fitted to cars up to and including 95HP. So for the Fabia MK3 1.2TSI 90HP and 1.0TSI 95HP 14" wheel will fits.

175/70R14 fitted to 5Jx14 ET35 5/100 57.1 rims is a standard tyre and rim size on the Fabia MK3.

175/70R14 has the same outside diameter and load index 84 (500kg) as the 185/60R15 tyre size.

The 5Jx14 ET35 5/100 57.1 rim was used on cars such as the Fabia MK1/MK2/MK3. The Fabia MK1/MK2 used 165/70R14 tyres on this specification of rim whereas the later Fabia MK3 used 175/70R14 tyres on this specification of rim.

Slightly oversize 185/70R14 fitted to the 5Jx14 ET35 5/100 57.1 rims would be a good alternative to 175/70R14 and 185/60R15 and give a super comfy ride. The Fabia MK4 has a 185/70R14 fitted to 5Jx14 ET38 5/100 57.1 option, although not necessarily in the UK where fashion dictates thin rubber bands.
