Featured Replies

Good morning peeps,

merry Christmas to you all 🧑‍🎄

im thinking it’s time to drop gearbox oil now and was wondering how much is needed and what recommendations you have for brands/type

looked on the sticky thread but can’t see for 6 speed gearbox oil specs.

Skoda call up G052171A2 for my 2009 VRS (KNU gearbox code), 2,6 Litres if I remember correctly.

The genuine stuff is very expensive now, so i tried the Febi equivalent this time and it seems to drive / change gear nicely. (Febi PN 21829)

Definitely worthwhile doing, think i have changed mine 4 times now since having it.

Whoever says oil is for life is mad!

On what basis do you say that? You are not mad so anybody who does different to  you must be?

My MK1 Octavia went to the scrapyard after 18 years and 500000 kms still on the original factor gearbox oil, the transmission was as good as the day it left the factory yet that vehicle had to put up with tremendous abuse towing lareg fronted massivey overloaded trailers though alpine switchbacks, it did make a little gear noise at those times during very long climbs in low gears but silenced again as soon as the oil temp dropped.

I drained the diff oil on my Yeti at 80K miles, albeit by mistake, it was not even discoloured.

I am not saying that you shouldn't change gearbox oil if you want to, it can not do any harm and would not say that you are mad for doing so

So is the oil 75w 90 or just GL4 ???

Think I need to buy a manual for this car 🤣

im a weirdo and change all fluids on my cars mainly because I’m unsure of what previous owners had put in (if they had changed anything 🤣) I once bought a Focus that when I changed the box oil it had none in we’ll just a smidge topped it up and noticed oil leaking from drive  seal so had to drop oil and change the drive shaft seals had been driving it for about 3 months before I decided to change 🤣🤣,,, that’s why I change stuff just so I know 🤣🤣

Do it!

Skoda erWin is about £7.50 for an hour, get all your files then and never need anything else.

Sorry was dealing with a washing machine furball, poor thing wouldn't drain until it coughed it up.

Go here and make an account, then you can take a little look around at some menu's to get aquainted before you begin.

https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/

When you are comfortable, I would recommend you make sure that you have your VIN put into a text file, triple check that it's correct.

Because once you pay for and start your hour, you need to get information in a single sitting, that hour is a hard limit when reached.

You can then pay the hour, and begin the process of getting your workshop manuals/wiring diagrams (why you need to take a little look around before, so you know where to look)

Copy and paste your VIN into the site in the correct spot, and it should filter out all the wiring diagrams and workshop manuals, then you can download them in PDF format.

You can also decode your PR-Codes too on the site, handy for identifying parts fitted just for your own specific car.

Final bonus, but will be confusing to explain, is you can view all of the above in a webpage also, and the one place that will be useful to read upon is online ElsaPro, and more specifically the "Red Book" of TPI's (Technical Product Information)  Should you wish to grab these, you will need to have either a PDF printer, or physical printer to grab the many pages in there.

You may as well use the hour to take a damn good look while you are there.
