Wheel make recommendations ?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am thinking of getting a alternative/winter wheel and tyre combo for the car, and have been looking on  wheelbasealoys at their packages.

There are many makes, so without wanting to pay fortunes, but wanting to get a good quality and durable set, any I should avoid and any recommendations for makes ?

I would like them to be at least as durable as OEM VAG. Looking at around £750 for wheels alone.

I would normally look to find something on Kopacek, but obviously import duties are going to sting, so need to source from the UK.

Skoda have lots of choices of wheel (see link)

There are probably similar catalogues for other VW group cars, and from your username you have an Ateca, those for Karoq are likely to fit.

I have an Arona, (which has smaller 5 x 100 PCD bolt spacing), and have been pleased with my Borbet Y alloys (16 inch with winter tyres).   I bought them through Reifen (but that was before stupid Brexit), nearer half the price the UK wheel companies wanted, so probably still much cheaper if you save German VAT, but pay import.   Borbet have a website where you can check what fits your car.

EDIT : can’t find the Seat version, but did find the German winter brochure which has some alloys with winter tyres (as packages)

Seat has accessories (need to choose performance in drop down to get the wheels)

Its not for the Ateca, it will be for a Cupra Born. So same bolt pattern but for the tyre cost and comfort I want to go for 18" and they need to be ideally 7.5j  for the 215 tyres, offset 44 to maintain stock fitment.

Most of the Skoda 18's are 7j.

Its not so much a fitment thing, Just I want t ensure whatever I buy is at least as robust as OEM, hence  which aftermarket makes to avoid or favour.

For some reason there doesn't appear to be much in good condition SH VAG OEM 18's atm or if there is they have tyres which aren't suitable sizes/type.

8Jx18 ET45 5/112 57.1 rims from the VW iD.4 would fit.

Both alloy and steel rims are available in this specification.

245/45R18 would be ideal for the 8J rim. It has an almost identical outside diameter to 245/40R19.
