There was a stone in the rear brake disc on my vrs. So went to remove the rear caliper pins and managed to round off the bottom bolt!!

 

So annoyed. I can’t fit a socket as there’s no space. Anyone got any recommendations?

 

Molegrips?

Soak it in a releasing agent.  Bit of heat might help?

 

Can you force a 'wrong' sized marginally smaller spanner on it? A BSW or AF perhaps?

 

Stillsons, or a self tightening wrench?

 

Could you file it to accept two sides of an open ended spanner?

 

Weld a good nut on to it?

 

Hammer and chisel to shock it around anti-clockwise?

 

Grind the entire head off, and then replace it?

Maybe you don't need to remove caliper? I have managed to pull out the stone through the wider part of this metal protection behind the disc, if I remember position correctly. This is the place where it entered probably as well and cannot let itself out, as it falls to the bottom where space between disc and metal is tight.

 

 

 

A bit late reply, but try a socket set for rounded bolts, loads out there. Can't recommend a brand as once I bought a set I've never rounded a nut since. They are a hex socket but the hex is offset to 'bite' the now rounded bolt, obviously they won't fit the unrounded correct size bolt.

 

Always spray PTFE containing penetrating oil at least 10 mins before tackling the job.

I wouldn't use a spanner. If access tight try 3/8" drive breaker bar and slim socket.
