Replacement Wheel Bolts

Featured Replies

Hi All

Been having an utter disaster with my Locking Wheel Bolts, where one of them is on so tight my mechanic stripped the pattern from the inside of the removal key.

I have sourced a replacement that fits however I've just checked the head of the Locking bolt itself which is also mush. Oh Joy...

Car is

Skoda Octavia Elegance Tsi (2014)

HJ14 VDD

I've had enough with the locking nuts and will remove them i think after all does anyone nick alloys anymore ..??

So I'm going to replace all the bolts all round can anyone advise if the below are suitable a suitable fit. Like them in a nice chrome finish.

Any other \ better thoughts always welcome.

It's either the DPF/GPF/CAT being chopped off, or the whole car being nicked for whatever*

Not really hearing much about alloys going these days to be fair, if you have caps that cover the bolts, then they won't know.

Be aware that insurance co might not agree. Worth a call.

Is there a question when you buy insurance if there are locking wheel bolts as standard or an option, in the way they ask about a tracker, alarm etc.  ? Will the insurance loss adjuster question the wheel thief if there were security bolts fitted?

I think insurance usually have the coverall question "has the vehicle been modified in any way?"

Should the worst happen, I'd be inclined to "lose" the bolt's left behind.

Many buy a car and never look under the covers to know what are fitted to hold the wheels on and only check or search for a the socket when going for a service or to get tyres fitted.

Either way based on a quick YouTube search Locking Nuts appear to be just a deterrent and can be removed quickly and easily with just a couple of tools.

I'm having visions of being stuck on the M25 trying to force my own wheel off and needing the AA to sort a stupid problem.

Mcgard brand is good. Replaced some on a land rover whose wheel nuts are 2 piece welded together and start to sheer and round. Eventually they separate and you have nothing to grab your hex socket or locking key with.

The jaguar nuts are the same and even worse, even when torqued correctly.
