Jabba rear ARB clamps

Featured Replies

I've just had one of the Mikalor clamps break open due to corrosion on the inside weakening it. Not done bad, been on there 13 years. But does anyone know what the clamp used is or us it a special Jabba manufacturer part

With this broken the car feels unstable as one clip is still there.

Any help appreciated

Simply measure it, they're a standard size.

Could you do better shots of the broken edges? I may know something, but need clearer shots of the break, preferably with a scaling object in them.

Yes - its Mikalor 92-97mm but I am not able to find the same sort on the Mikalor website. All the ones there have a joining part between the two bolt eyes.

Sure Ken. Cleaned them with a brass brush.

I think I may see signs of crystallisation and stress breaks towards the edges of the piece.

Thanks. It looks a bit different but I ordered a couple.

Those Mikalor are spot held where the hold can corrode and come apart, better maybe is the Norma  GBS heavy duty W2 or W4 stainless steel with bent over locking ("Mechanically locked"). - https://www.normagroup.com/norma/en/products/norma-gbs/?open&ccm=020030

Just as an eBay UK seller example only (W2). - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324657985550

@Tailhappy@nta16 - That's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking about, but I didn't know how the Jabba clamps were made.

It looked to me that it might be the Mikalor Super Heavy Duty clamp but that only goes up to 80-85 (and W1 only). - https://mikalorcompany.com/hose-clamps-and-clips/high-pressure/super-heavy-duty-clamp

Mikalor Supra might be an easier fit for the square shape than the Norma GBS but difficult to know until they're being fitted, Norma GBS I'd think would be stronger and longer lasting.  Norma GBS datasheet pdf attached.

I'd contact Jabba Sport and ask them what they last used or can suggest. - https://www.jabbasport.com/products/jabbasport-rear-arb-fabia-vrs

Ken, the Mikalor clamps are it, bit DIY but if they've lasted 13 years obviously a simple solution, often used and good enough.  A bush and base clamping plates and bolts might have been more 'engineered' but I've no idea of space available for fixing. - https://www.jabbasport.com/products/jabbasport-rear-arb-fabia-vrs

got muddled

Mikalor 91-97 or similar. The slide/shield bit is "a bit of tin" and can be removed quite easily. The newer Mikalors don't seem to rust. Bending them to an approximation of the right shape and getting the threads started can be annoying but it's a simple task.

Main question is whether you still have the bush cover/protector thing or if it fell off. Between the clamp and the bush in the piccie on Jabba's site. It's a steel U section bent to fit around the bush.

I'm sure some drilled holes in them and cabled or zip-tied them on to stop them getting lost. If it's still on the car but unsupported, I'd grab it and put it somewhere safe until a new clamp is installed. "Refurb" kit from Jabba was about £30-40 ISTR. That included bushes, covers and lube from what I recall. I sourced the clamps from eBay or Amazon.

Yes, there is a room.

I used this method with my Jabbasport rear anti-roll bar, there are some pics here:

That's funny as I was originally thinking of U-bolts, but going the other way round as I didn't know the room or shape of crossmember, yours solves that, I then thought of sandwich plates and changed my mind.  Even thought it's proven to work the bent circular clamps is an ugly quick solution to me.

Just a quick update. Due to the bar being corroded I'm going to take completely off and have it powder coated and then renew both clamps. Will ask the lads at Unit 18 to refit when I'm over there next week. Jabba ARB paint came off almost immediately and now it looks a right mess.

Final update. Unit 18 did a great job of refitting after I de-rusted and painted the bar. I asked my local powder coater and they said because its large and also rusty steel they could not really do it. So an hour with a wire brush and paint and its like new again.

I did try to contact Jabba for a full rebuild kit but they neither answered the phone or replied to the contact form so just cleaned up the old ones. They were fine thankfully.

Amazing the difference the bar makes. When I drove without it the car was no longer chuckable and fun.
