Continually running cooling fan.

Featured Replies

Hello Oricals, happy new year all.

Odd one this. Came out the front door this morning to find the radiator cooling fan running full tilt. It only stopped once I'd unplugged it.

While this is not to drastic in the winter, l will need it when the warmer weather arrives.

Anyone know why this should happen and what l can do to fix it? Relay perhaps?

Grateful for any help and advice.

The car is a 1998 Felicia Fun.

Thanks all.

doesnit have AC? If not, then it's probably faulty thermal switch on the radiator.

I think the thermoswitch has fused it's contacts

If it's a signed speed a 5 euro part easily replaceable with a 29mm socket and ratchet.

But unplug the battery to avoid shorting the feed cable.

Mine is under the strut bar, below that black cap (on the passengers side).

Nooo  29 or 30

I have never used 30mm wrench in car repairs (i have changed my  thermoswitch in the past) because i never need to bought one.

Update: Yes it's 29mm, i just check it.

Depends from the country that you living (climate)

Here mainly we use 80-85 'C (some with older cars in traffic areas use 75-80 'C ) ,if you live in a colder place then 85-90 'C etc

An example from the well know Mahle

at what point of the gauge does your fan initiate?

The first time:

One click above 90 'C ( must be 91-92) and works for few seconds, less than a minute.
